John Harris (born October 15,1957,in Glennallen,Alaska) is an American politician and member of the Alaska House of Representatives. He served as Speaker of the House from 2005 to 2008. He was first elected in 1998 and represents the 12th district,as a member of the Republican Party. He was the mayor of Valdez from 1992 to 1996 and a member of the Valdez City Council from 1990 to 1998. John Harris attended Lincoln Electric Welding School in Cleveland,Ohio and Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa,Oklahoma. He is the owner of Valdez Industrial Supply,and has been a board member of Horizons Unlimited,Resource of Alaska,and United Way. [1]
He is Chair of the House Committee on Committees and was Co-Chair of the Finance Committee. He is a member of the Armed Services Committee,the ASC Subcommittee on Homeland Security,the Rules Committee,the Legislative Council Committee,and the following Finance Subcommittees:Court System,Governor,Legislature,and University of Alaska. He was a member of the Ethics Committee,the Finance Committee,the Legislative Budget &Audit Joint Committee,and the Finance Subcommittees for Health &Social Services and Corrections. [1] [2]
Harris contemplated running for Alaska governor in 2010 but dropped out of the race over fundraising concerns. [3]
Harris has asked Ben Stevens,former Alaska state senator and son of Ted Stevens,to resign from his position on the Republican National Committee. Stevens is under investigation for his ties to the oil field services company Veco Corp. [4] In 2002,Harris offered an amendment that would have stopped an increase in state alcohol tax. [5] In 2001,due to legal problems posed when pilots fly into Canada,he introduced a bill to change the law requiring pilots to carry a gun as part of their survival kit. [6] He opposed a bill that would have stopped the minimum wage from increasing with inflation. [7]
Theodore Fulton Stevens Sr. was an American politician and lawyer who served as a U.S. Senator from Alaska from 1968 to 2009. He was the longest-serving Republican Senator in history at the time he left office. Stevens was the president pro tempore of the United States Senate in the 108th and 109th Congresses from 2003 to 2007,and was the third U.S. Senator to hold the title of president pro tempore emeritus. He was previously Solicitor of the Interior Department from 1960 to 1961. Stevens has been described as one of the most powerful members of Congress and as the most powerful member of Congress from the Northwestern United States.

Benjamin Aavan Stevens was an American politician and political advisor who served as the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Alaska,Mike Dunleavy. He previously served as the President of the Alaska State Senate as a member of the Republican Party. Stevens was the son of the late United States Senator Ted Stevens,who represented Alaska from 1968 to 2009.

William James Allen was an American businessman who was the CEO of the Alaska oilfield services company VECO Corporation. VECO was an Alaska-based oil pipeline service and construction company founded by Wayne Veltri. Bill Allen was born in Socorro,New Mexico,and at the age of 16 left for the oil fields of Alaska to become a welder to help support his family. VECO began as a one-truck welding and repair operation that grew to become a major player in the Alaskan and worldwide oil industries' support services business. He built a for-profit prison in Barbados as well. VECO also was a worldwide player in the oil industry,having divisions in many major oil markets,including Sudan,Russia,Mexico,Venezuela,and Syria. VECO had a major impact on the economy of Alaska and employed over 5,000 people worldwide. Allen was later prosecuted for sexually assaulting minors,a crime he had been protected from prior after lying under oath during Ted Stevens's corruption trial,costing the Senator re-election in 2008.

The 2010 Alaska gubernatorial election took place on November 2,2010. Former Governor Sarah Palin did not run,having resigned in July 2009. Incumbent Governor Sean Parnell,who as lieutenant governor succeeded Palin following her resignation,announced that he would seek a full term.
William A. Thomas Jr. is a businessman,commercial fisherman,and politician from the U.S. state of Alaska. Thomas served as a Republican member of the Alaska House of Representatives from the 5th District,comprising scattered rural and semi-rural communities throughout Southeast Alaska and stretching westward to Prince William Sound,from 2005 to 2013. Thomas served in the majority his entire tenure in the House and held multiple chairmanships. Thomas gained a seat on the powerful House Finance Committee during his second term and would eventually co-chair the committee. Following redistricting,Thomas lost reelection in 2012 by 32 votes to 23-year-old Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins,a political newcomer who left Yale University to run.

Chenault served as a Republican member of the Alaska House of Representatives from 2001 to 2019,representing portions of the Kenai Peninsula Borough,where he has lived for most of his life. Chenault served as the body's speaker from 2009 to 2017. He lost his position as house speaker to Democrat Bryce Edgmon when three Republicans joined a coalition of Democrats to form a bipartisan house majority after the general election in November 2016.
