Allegany County is a county located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Maryland. As of the 2020 census,the population was 68,106. Its county seat is Cumberland. The name Allegany may come from a local Lenape word,welhik hane or oolikhanna, which means 'best flowing river of the hills' or 'beautiful stream'. A number of counties and a river in the Appalachian region of the U.S. are named Allegany,Allegheny,or Alleghany. Allegany County is part of the Western Maryland region of the state,and is part of the Cumberland metropolitan area.

Frostburg State University (FSU) is a public university in Frostburg,Maryland. The elections coincided with the 2020 U.S. presidential election,as well as other elections to the House of Representatives,elections to the United States Senate,and various state and local elections. On March 17,2020,Governor Larry Hogan announced that the primary election would be postponed from April 28 to June 2 due to coronavirus concerns. On March 26,the Maryland Board of Elections met to consider whether in-person voting should be used for June's primary,and recommended that voting in June be mail-in only.
