John Rinehart (born 1970) is the President of Business Operations for the Sacramento Kings and Golden 1 Center since July 2017. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
Rinehart attended Villanova University (1987–91), and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.
Before his job with the Kings, Rinehart worked for the Anaheim Angels & Anaheim Ducks (1998-2000) as Director of Finance at Anaheim Sports, and was Manager of Financial Reporting for the San Francisco Giants (1996–98). Before entering the sports profession, Rinehart worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers (1991–96) in San Francisco. [6] [7]
Starting in the 2000-01 season, Rinehart became the chief executive officer.
During this time, Rinehart oversaw the financial accounting and business operations of the Sacramento Kings and Sleep Train Arena. Also, Rinehart was directly involved in the construction of the Kings' new arena. Additionally, Rinehart's duties included contract negotiation, legal issues, arena services, player contract compliance, strategic planning, insurance and tax requirements. Arena services included the supervision of the retail sales, human resources, ticket services and box office operations. In his time with the Kings, Rinehart has negotiated agreements on building naming rights, ticketing agreements, debt financing, and cable/radio broadcast contracts such as the Comcast Sports Net deal.
In 2013, Rinehart negotiated the sale of the Kings between the former owner Maloof family and the group led by Vivek Ranadivé. Despite the new ownership, Ranadivé asked Rinehart to remain with the team as EVP of business operations and CFO. [8]
In July 2017, Rinehart was promoted from CFO to president of business operations, following the resignation of president Chris Granger after four years with the team. [9]

The arena was named for ARCO, at the time in 1988, a Los Angeles-based independent oil and gas company that today is now a brand owned by Findlay, Ohio-based Marathon Petroleum. It was later named for Sleep Train, a chain of mattress and bed retailers based in Rocklin, California, that at the time of the agreement was a subsidiary of Mattress Firm, a Houston-based retailer that has since re-branded all Sleep Train stores as Mattress Firm. Several major entertainers have performed at the venue before its closure including Bruno Mars and Linkin Park.

From 2006 to 2013, the Sacramento Kings organization was under constant threat of the team moving. It is widely believed that the team's owners throughout this period lost much of their fortune and were no longer able to run a National Basketball Association (NBA) franchise. The Maloofs courted Anaheim, Virginia Beach, and Seattle as potential suitors for the team. Sacramento Mayor and former NBA All-Star Kevin Johnson, with the help of local business owners and a rabid fan base, was successful in saving the franchise and persuading the NBA to force the Maloofs to sell the team to the Vivek Ranadivé group.

Monte McNair is an American sports executive who is the general manager and president of basketball operations for the Sacramento Kings. He was appointed to this position in September 2020, having previously spent 13 years in the Houston Rockets organization.
"Light the Beam!" is a chant and rallying call in support of the National Basketball Association (NBA)'s Sacramento Kings. Referring to the Kings lighting a purple beam of light from their Golden 1 Center arena following a win, the phrase originated early during the Kings' 2022–23 season. The phrase gained popularity among Kings fans, particularly due to the team's improved performance compared to prior years. The performances of point guard De'Aaron Fox and center Domantas Sabonis specifically have been associated with the chant. Finding success after the adoption of the beam, the Kings were nicknamed the "Beam Team" during the season.
