John Ronald Unger II is a former American politician and magistrate. Prior to his appointment as a Berkeley County magistrate, [1] Unger represented the 16th district in the West Virginia Senate from 1999 to 2021. The 16th District includes all of Jefferson County and a portion of Berkeley County. At the time of his retirement from the West Virginia Senate,Unger was the third active longest-serving senator and longest serving senator from the Eastern Panhandle. [2]
During his time in the Legislature,Unger served as Majority Leader of the West Virginia Senate from January 2011 until November 2014 when Democrats lost control of the Senate as a result of Republican gains in the 2014 West Virginia Senate election. [3] Unger then served as Minority Whip until 2017 when Marion County state Sen. Roman Prezioso became the new Minority Leader and appointed former Kanawha County state Sen. Corey Palumbo as Minority Whip. [3]
While a student at West Virginia University,Unger was named a member of the 1992 USA TODAY All-USA Academic Team and a Truman Scholar. [4] He also went as a Rhodes Scholar to Oxford University and has a master’s degree in divinity from the Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington,D.C. [5]
Unger is ordained as an ELCA Lutheran pastor,and serves the congregations of St. John Lutheran Church,St. John's Episcopal Church,and Bolivar United Methodist Church in Harpers Ferry,West Virginia. [6] In addition,he is a chaplain for the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office. [7]

Michael Caputo is an American politician serving as a Democratic member of the West Virginia Senate,representing the 13th District since 2020. Caputo was the only new Democratic senator elected in the 2020 Senate elections.

Carmichael was also a candidate for Governor of West Virginia in the 2011 West Virginia gubernatorial special election. As President of the state Senate from January 2017 to January 2021,he held the title Lieutenant Governor of West Virginia. After his defeat in 2020,Governor Jim Justice appointed Carmichael as West Virginia's economic development director.
Craig Philip Blair is an American politician and a Republican member of the West Virginia Senate representing District 15 since January 12,2013. Blair served non-consecutively in the West Virginia Legislature from January 2003 until January 2011 in the West Virginia House of Delegates in the District 52 seat. Blair is also the father of former WV Delegate Saira Blair.
William Ramsey Laird IV is an American politician and a former Democratic member of the West Virginia Senate representing District 10 from 2013 until 2017. Laird served consecutively from January 2009 until January 2013 in the District 11 seat,and served non-consecutively in the West Virginia Legislature from January 1997 until January 2001 in the West Virginia House of Delegates in a District 29 seat. Laird is the son of former United States Senator William Laird III.
