John Albert Evans, Jr. (born February 18, 1956) is a former professional American and Canadian football punter and quarterback and current radio sportscaster for the North Carolina State Wolfpack football team. He is also the Eastern NC Director for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He played his college football career for NC State where he led the team to an 8-4 record his senior season, and was named MVP of the 1977 Peach Bowl. He completed 3 years in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns and 4 years in the CFL for the Montreal Alouettes/Concordes and the Edmonton Eskimos. Since 1996 he has been the radio color commentator for NC State football. He is the father of quadruplets, two of whom played football for NC State.
Norman Leslie Sloan Jr. was an American college basketball player and coach. Sloan was a native of Indiana and played college basketball and football at North Carolina State University. He began a long career as a basketball coach months after graduating from college in 1951, and he was the men's basketball head coach at Presbyterian College, The Citadel, North Carolina State University, and two stints at the University of Florida. Over a career that spanned 38 seasons, Sloan was named conference coach of the year five times and won the 1974 national championship at North Carolina State, his alma mater. He was nicknamed "Stormin' Norman" due to his combative nature with the media, his players, and school administrators, and his collegiate coaching career ended in controversy when Florida's basketball program was under investigation in 1989, though Sloan claimed that he was treated unfairly.

The NC State Wolfpack men's basketball team represents North Carolina State University in NCAA Division I men's basketball competition. N.C. State is one of the seven founding members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Prior to joining the ACC in 1954, the Wolfpack was a member of the Southern Conference, where they won seven conference championships. As a member of the ACC, the Wolfpack has won ten conference championships, as well as two national championships in 1974 and 1983. State's unexpected 1983 title was one of the most memorable in NCAA history.

The North Carolina–NC State football rivalry is an American college football rivalry between the North Carolina Tar Heels football team of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the NC State Wolfpack football team of North Carolina State University. Both universities are members of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and are permanent cross-division opponents. North Carolina leads the all-time series 68–38–6 (.634). The Wolfpack have won 5 of the last 7 and 11 of the last 16 in the series. NC State won the most recent contest, 30–27 in double overtime, on November 25, 2022. It is annually anticipated as the biggest college football game in the state of North Carolina. Only twice in the history of the rivalry has the game been contested anywhere beside Chapel Hill or Raleigh. The game has been played 60 times in Chapel Hill, 50 times in Raleigh, and twice in Charlotte, North Carolina. Played uninterrupted since 1953, the game since 1965 has alternated annually between the two respective campuses. Games in odd-numbered years are played in Raleigh at NC State, and even-numbered years in Chapel Hill at UNC.
David William Doeren is an American football coach who is currently the head football coach at North Carolina State University, a position he has held since the 2013 season. Doeren previously served as the head football coach at Northern Illinois University from 2011 to 2012 and has been an assistant at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, University of Kansas, University of Montana, and University of Southern California. He played college football at Drake University, where he also held his first assistant coaching position.

The 1990 All-American Bowl was an American college football bowl game that was played on December 28, 1990 at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama. The game matched the Southern Miss Golden Eagles against the NC State Wolfpack. It was the final contest of the 1990 NCAA Division I-A football season for both teams. The game ended in a 31–27 victory for the Wolfpack. The game represented the final game of Southern Miss quarterback Brett Favre's collegiate career. He was named the game's MVP despite his team's loss, compiling 341 passing yards in 39 attempts with one interception. The game was the fourteenth and final edition of the All-American Bowl.
The NC State Wolfpack women's soccer team represent North Carolina State University in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) of NCAA Division I women's college soccer. The team has never won the ACC regular season championship, but has won the ACC Tournament once. The team has advanced to the NCAA Women's soccer tournament 14 times. The most notable of these appearances was in 1988, when the Wolfpack finished runners up.

At season's end the Wolfpack did not play in a bowl game, having declined an invitation to play in the Garden State Bowl. As of 2022, the 1979 NC State team is the last bowl-eligible Power Five conference champion to not play in a bowl game.
The 2017 Sun Bowl was a postseason college football bowl game played at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas, on December 29, 2017. The game was the 84th Sun Bowl and featured the NC State Wolfpack of the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Arizona State Sun Devils of the Pac-12 Conference. It was one of the 2017–18 bowl games concluding the 2017 FBS football season. Sponsored by Hyundai Motor America, the game was officially known as the Hyundai Sun Bowl.
