Carroll Williams is a former American football quarterback who played four seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL) with the Montreal Alouettes and BC Lions. He played college football at Xavier University and attended Archbishop Curley High School in Miami, Florida.

Early years

Williams played high school football and basketball for the Archbishop Curley High School Knights. He was the first African-American to enroll at the school. [1]

College career

Williams played for the Xavier Musketeers from 1963 to 1966. He became starting quarterback for the Musketeers midway though his sophomore year in 1964. [2] He was selected to the All-Catholic All-American Team and chosen as the 1965 Catholic College Player of the Year (The Brooklyn Tablet) after his junior year in 1965. Williams was also played in the North-South Mahi Shiner's All Star Football Game in Miami, Florida, after his senior year in 1966. [1] He was inducted into the Xavier Athletic Hall of Fame in 1982. [3] He recorded career totals of 4,000 yards on 33 passing touchdowns and also scored ten rushing touchdowns during his college career. [4]

Professional career

Williams played for the CFL's Montreal Alouettes from 1967 to 1969. He lost the starting quarterback job to Sonny Wade in 1969. [3] He played for the BC Lions of the CFL in 1970. [3]

Williams worked in education after his playing career. [1]

Durant was signed as a free agent by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2006, and became the club's full-time starting quarterback in 2009. He was named a CFL West Division All-Star in 2009 and 2013. Durant was the starting quarterback when the Saskatchewan Roughriders won the 101st Grey Cup in 2013 on their home field. Durant also played for the Montreal Alouettes in 2017. His brother Justin played in the National Football League as a linebacker.

Ryan Phillips is the defensive coordinator for the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and a former professional Canadian football defensive back. He played most of his career with the BC Lions, where he has been part of two Grey Cup championship teams and was the last remaining active Lions player from the 2006 roster that won the 2006 Grey Cup. He holds numerous Lions franchise records and had been named a western all-star five times and a league all-star four times. Phillips was known for his durability, having only missed four games in his 12-year career which includes a consecutive games-played streak of 181 games. He was also a member of the Montreal Alouettes in 2017. He is a 2006 graduate of Eastern Washington University which is also where he played college football for the Eastern Washington Eagles.

He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2018.

The 2011 CFL season was the 58th season of modern-day Canadian football. Officially, it was the 54th season of the Canadian Football League. The complete schedule was released on February 18 and featured the defending Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes opening the season against the visiting BC Lions on Thursday, June 30, 2011. The season was among the most notable in the modern era for the competitiveness of the teams; going into the final week, five teams were tied for first place in the league, a first in modern CFL history. It was also the first time since 1982 that all teams finished with fewer than 12 wins in the regular season. As well, for the first time since 1950, the start of the modern era, all four teams competing in the division finals were different from the four teams that had competed in the division finals the previous year. Newly renovated BC Place Stadium in Vancouver hosted the 99th Grey Cup on November 27, with the hometown Lions defeating the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 34–23 in front of a sold-out crowd.

Jerome Messam is a former professional Canadian football running back. He most recently played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the BC Lions. After being traded to the Edmonton Eskimos, he became the seventh Canadian running back since 1955 and the first since 2000 to rush for over 1,000 yards while also winning the CFL's Most Outstanding Canadian Award. Messam played college football for Graceland University.
