The 1928 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the IX Olympiad and commonly known as Amsterdam 1928, was an international multi-sport event that was celebrated from 28 July to 12 August 1928 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The city of Amsterdam had previously bid for the 1920 and 1924 Olympic Games, but was obliged to give way to war-torn Antwerp in Belgium for the 1920 Games and Pierre de Coubertin's Paris for the 1924 Games.

Henri "Rik" Hoevenaers was a Belgian road cyclist who won three medals at the 1924 Summer Olympics, including a silver in the individual time trial, a silver in the team time trial, and a bronze in the team pursuit. He also won the road race at the 1925 World Championships. Hoevenaers turned professional in 1926. His father Josef and son Jos were also professional cyclists.
Gert Jan van Woudenberg is a retired Dutch rower. He competed at the 1976 Summer Olympics in the coxed fours, together with Evert Kroes, Adrie Klem, Martin Baltus and Jos Ruijs, and finished in tenth place. His brother Jan-Willem van Woudenberg took part in the same event at the 1972 Olympics.
Johannes Leo Jozef "Jos" Schrier is a sailor from the Netherlands, who represented his country at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. With Mark Neeleman as helmsman, Schrier took the 4th place in the Star. In the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Schrier made his second Olympic appearance and preformed with the Dutch Star Mark Neeleman. Together, they took 6th place in the Star.
Jos Bernard was a Luxembourgian gymnast who competed in the 1948 Summer Olympics. He was born in Cologne in April 1924 and died in January 2020 at the age of 95.

His work was included in the 1939 exhibition and sale Onze Kunst van Heden at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Seckel and his family died during the Bezuidenhout bombardment on 3 March 1945.
