Jose Medina (born March 29,1953) is an American educator and politician who served in the California State Assembly. [1] He is a Democrat who represented the 61st Assembly District,which encompassed parts of northwestern Riverside County and includes the cities of Riverside,Moreno Valley,Perris and Mead Valley.
Medina was the Chair of the Higher Education Committee [2] and a member of the California Latino Legislative Caucus and the California Legislative Jewish Caucus. Prior to being elected to the Assembly in 2012,he was a teacher at Riverside Poly High School and a Riverside Community College District Trustee.
In 2018,Jose Medina secured $9.7 million in state funds [3] through a budget allocation in the 2019 State Budget,signed by former California Governor Jerry Brown [4] to support the development of the Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art,Culture and Industry of the Riverside Art Museum,also known as "The Cheech." The Cheech will reside in the City of Riverside and be a permanent home for Cheech Marin's collection of Chicano art,making it the most prominent collection of its kind in the United States. [5]

Richard Anthony "Cheech" Marin is an American comedian,actor,musician,and activist. He gained recognition as part of the comedy act Cheech &Chong during the 1970s and early 1980s with Tommy Chong,and as Don Johnson's partner,Insp. Joe Dominguez,on Nash Bridges. He has also voiced characters in several Disney films,including Oliver &Company,The Lion King,the Cars series,Coco and Beverly Hills Chihuahua.
Carlos D. Almaraz was a Mexican-American artist and a pioneer of the Chicano art movement. He was one of the founder of the Centro de Arte Público (1977–1979),a Chicano/Chicana arts organization in Highland Park,Los Angeles.
Gronk,born Glugio Nicandro,is a Chicano painter,printmaker,and performance artist. His work is collected by museums around the country including the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
Gilbert "Magu" Luján was a Chicano American sculptor,muralist,painter,and educator. John Laird,an American politician,is the California State Senator for District 17,since 7 December 2020,and was Secretary of the California Natural Resources Agency from 2011 to 2019 and a former legislator who represented the 27th district in the California State Assembly until 2008. The 27th district included parts of Santa Clara County,Santa Cruz County and Monterey County. Laird was one of the first two openly gay men to serve in the California legislature. Laird became one of the United States' first openly gay mayors in 1983 when he took over the mayoralty of the city of Santa Cruz,California.

Paul Joseph Cook is an American politician serving as a San Bernardino County Supervisor since 2020,previously serving as the U.S. representative for California's 8th congressional district from 2013 to 2020. A member of the Republican Party,Cook also served on the Yucca Valley Town Council from 1998 to 2006 and represented the 65th district in the California State Assembly from 2006 to 2012.

The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art &Culture,known as The Cheech,is a museum in Riverside,California. It is part of the larger Riverside Art Museum. The center is focused on the exhibition and study of Chicano art from across the United States. This is a collaborative effort between Cheech Marin,the City of Riverside and Riverside Art Museum. Cheech Marin is a stand-up comedian,actor,writer,and collector. He has donated or promised his collection of more than 700 pieces of Chicano art. Riverside provides the old Riverside public library to house the collection and the Riverside Art Museum manages the center. The Cheech strives to be a world-class institution for the research and study of "all things [related to] Chicano art". It is the first North American museum facility dedicated exclusively to Mexican-American and Chicano art.
