Major-General Joseph Kasaine Ole Nkaissery (28 November 1949 – 8 July 2017) was a Kenyan politician. He was a Member of Parliament in the National Assembly of Kenya from 2002 to 2014, when he resigned to take up a cabinet position as Secretary for Internal Security and Coordination of National Government. He was also a senior elder of the Maasai community until his sudden death on 8 July 2017. [1]
Before joining politics, Nkaissery served in the Kenya Defence Forces since 1973, rising to the rank of major-general in the Kenya Army. In 1987, he was appointed the military assistant to the Chief of General Staff. He also served as a commandant of the Armed Forces Training College. He retired in December 2002 after 29 years of military service. [2] [3]
Nkaissery was elected to the National Assembly in 2007 and served as an Assistant Minister for Internal Security in the cabinet of President Mwai Kibaki from 2008 to 2013. When Operation Linda Nchi was launched in 2011, he served as the assistant minister to the Kenyan Ministry of Defence. [4]
On 2 December 2014, Nkaissery was nominated by President Uhuru Kenyatta for the post of Cabinet Secretary for Internal Security, to replace Joseph Ole Lenku, and subject to approval by the Parliament of Kenya. Following his approval as Cabinet Secretary, Nkaissery stepped down as Member of Parliament for Kajiado Central Constituency. [5]
Nkaissery was a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) from 2007 to 2014. [6] He was also coalition member of Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) from 2013 to 2014. He was first elected Member of Parliament on an ODM ticket in the 2007 general election before being re-elected on the same party ticket in 2013. [7]
Nkaissery was admitted to Karen Hospital in Nairobi after reportedly collapsing at his home. He was pronounced dead in the morning on 8 July 2017, with post-mortem results showing that he had suffered from an acute myocardial Infarction. [8] [9]
Emilio Mwai Kibaki was a Kenyan politician who served as the third President of Kenya from December 2002 until April 2013.

Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka is a Kenyan politician who was the tenth Vice-President of Kenya from 2008 to 2013. William Kipchirchir Samoei arap Ruto is a Kenyan politician who is the fifth and current president of Kenya since 13 September 2022. The 2007–2008 Kenyan crisis was a violent political, economic, and humanitarian crisis that erupted in Kenya after former President Mwai Kibaki was declared the winner of the presidential election held on December 27, 2007. Supporters of Kibaki's main opponent in that election, Raila Odinga of the Orange Democratic Movement, alleged electoral manipulation. This position was widely confirmed by international observers, as being perpetrated by both parties in the election. Professor Nyong'o was the acting party leader from March 11 until late May when Raila Odinga was in the United States and was elected to the National Assembly of Kenya in the December 2007 parliamentary election, representing the Kisumu Rural Constituency. Fred Okengo Matiang'i is a former Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government. He assumed office on 8 July 2017 on acting capacity after the sudden Demise of Joseph ole Nkaissery, making him hold two cabinet positions concurrently, that is in the ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government and Education, Science and Technology. He took up the full position of cabinet secretary for Internal Security and Coordination of National Government after being appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta in January 2018 in the president's second comprehensive cabinet appointments. On 22 January 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta, through Executive Order Number 1 of 2019, appointed him chairperson of the National Development Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee. The committee is composed of all Cabinet Secretaries, The Attorney-General and the Head of the Public Service who acts as the secretariat.
Joseph Jama Ole Lenku is a Kenyan politician who is the second Governor of Kajiado County after winning in the Kenyan General Elections on 8 August 2017 and retained his seat in the 2022 General elections held on 8 August. Lenku was Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government from 2013 to 2014.
