Joshua Gmayenaam Makubu (born 12 September 1980) [1] is a Ghanaian politician. He is Minister of Oti Region in Ghana. [2] [3] President Nana Akufo-Addo nominated him for the position. He is the second person with a disability to be appointed as a Ghanaian minister. [4] [5] [6]
He is from Nkwanta South. [7] He had one leg surgically amputated when he was either 8 or 9 years old. [8] [9] He attended EP Senior High School in Saboba,Northern Region,before enrolling at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He graduated with a BSc. in Actuarial Science. He later earned a MPhil in Business Administration at the University of Ghana. [10] He is pursuing a PhD in Finance at University of Ghana Business School [9] [1] and also has a Higher National Diploma in statistics. [7] He works as a teacher and an advocate. [11] [12] [10]
He is a member of the New Patriotic Party,for whom he began serving as regional secretary in 2018. [10] [13] His predecessor in office was Nana Kwasi Owusu-Yeboah,the former and first Oti Regional Minister. [14] [5]
Politics of Ghana takes place in a framework of a presidential representative democratic republic,whereby the president of Ghana is both head of state and head of government,and of a two party system. The seat of government is at Golden Jubilee House. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and Parliament. The Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) is the official body in Ghana responsible for all public elections. Made up of seven members and there are seven (7) functional departments at the Head Office. Each department is headed by a Director who is assisted by Unit Heads. On December 5,2018,the Electoral commission chaired by Jean Adukwei Mensah reverted to the old logo showing the Coat of arms of Ghana and a ballot box showing the hand casting its votes,after the controversy over the new logo.

On 14 February 2024,he was nominated for consideration by Parliament as Minister of Health.

The Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) is a Ghanaian government agency under the Ministry of Trade and Industry. The GEA is mandated by the Ghana Enterprises Agency Act,2020 to promote and develop MSMEs in Ghana. It replaced the National Board for Small-Scale Industries (NBSSI).
The Government of Ghana initially responded to the virus through a nationwide disinfection and fumigation exercise which began in April 2020. In order to curb the spread of the virus,the government enforced lockdowns,aggressive contact tracing,public bans and social measures such as encouraging the wearing of face masks. By April,it began the gradual reopening of the country;lifting all lockdowns while maintaining protocols such as social distancing. Throughout the pandemic,the government partnered with the private sector in order to roll out economic reliefs and recovery programs as a result of the impact of the pandemic on Ghana's economy. There was also an expansion of medical facilities and the improvement of testing logistics.
