Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including public works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewage systems, pipelines, structural components of buildings, and railways.
Drainage is the natural or artificial removal of a surface's water and sub-surface water from an area with excess of water. The internal drainage of most agricultural soils is good enough to prevent severe waterlogging, but many soils need artificial drainage to improve production or to manage water supplies.
Hydraulic engineering as a sub-discipline of civil engineering is concerned with the flow and conveyance of fluids, principally water and sewage. One feature of these systems is the extensive use of gravity as the motive force to cause the movement of the fluids. This area of civil engineering is intimately related to the design of bridges, dams, channels, canals, and levees, and to both sanitary and environmental engineering.

The Library offers free access to abstracts of Academic journal articles, proceedings papers, e-books, and standards as well as many e-book chapters. Access to the content is available either by subscription or pay-per-view for individual articles or chapters. E-books and standards can be purchased and downloaded in their entirety. Most references cited by journal articles and proceedings papers in the library are linked to original sources using CrossRef. Linking provides researchers with the ability to link from reference citations to the bibliographic records of other scientific and technical publishers’ articles. The Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, formerly the Journal of the Hydraulics Division (1956–1982), is a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the American Society of Civil Engineers. Topics range from flows in closed conduits to free-surface flows to environmental fluid dynamics. Topics include transport processes involving fluids such as sediment and contaminant transport, and heat and gas transfers. Emphasis is placed on the presentation of concepts, methods, techniques, and results that advance knowledge and/or are suitable for general application in the hydraulic engineering profession.
Kanwar Sain, also spelt as Rai Bahadur Kanwar Sain Gupta OBE (1899–1979) was a civil engineer from Haryana state in India. He was the chief engineer in the Bikaner state who came up with idea of Rajasthan Canal. He also successfully implemented Ganga canal project. He was considered a dynamite of irrigation engineering of his time. He was born in 1899 in Tohana district Fatehabad (Haryana). He was educated at D.A.V. College, Lahore. He graduated as a civil engineer from Thomason College of Civil Engineering, Roorkee in the year 1927 with hons. He was awarded Padma Bhushan in 1956. He has written a book called -Reminiscences of an engineer. He was chairman of Central Water and Power Commission, Ministry of Irrigation and Power, Government of India. Kanwar sain and Karpov (1967) presented enveloping curves for Indian rivers.
