The Jumbo Stay (formerly Jumbo Hostel) at Arlanda Airport near Stockholm, Sweden, is a hostel located inside a decommissioned 747-200 jetliner. It opened in 2008.
The hotel is located inside a decommissioned 747-200 jetliner which is only a 15-minute walk is between the hostel and the Stockholm airport main terminal. [1]
The aircraft is a Boeing 747-212B originally built for Singapore Airlines in 1976, registered 9V-SQE (construction number 21162/line number 283). It was later sold to Pan American World Airways where it was registered N727PA and named "Clipper Belle of the Sky". The aircraft later served with Air Club International, Northeast Airlines, Jet Midwest Inc, Tower Air, Nationair, Cathay Pacific, and Garuda Indonesia. The last owner was Transjet, a Swedish charter airline based out of Arlanda that went bankrupt in 2002.
In 2006 Jumbostay´s owner Oscar Diös heard about the wreck. In December 2007, Sigtuna authorities granted a building permit for establishing Jumbo Stay at the entrance to Arlanda airport. In January 2008, the aircraft was moved to a construction parking site where the first phase of the conversion began with the dismantling of the old interior, new paint and new decorations for the rooms. 450 seats were taken out and the plane was sanitized completely. The hostel was built like any building, subjected to the same demands on climate control and insulation, adhering to all common energy standards. Heating is achieved with an air-air inverter.
While the aircraft's engines were removed for spare parts, the outer casings of the 747's four engines were kept and were re-mounted onto their pylons. Most of the instruments in the aircraft's cockpit were also salvaged as part of its conversion into a suite, but the control columns, central throttle console and forward instrument panels have been kept.
During the summer of 2008, the plane was towed to its final destination at the entrance to Stockholm-Arlanda Airport where it was placed on a concrete foundation with the landing gear secured in two steel cradles. A metal flight of stairs and an elevator were then installed to allow visitors to access the aircraft's interior from ground level. The hostel opened late December 2008.
Since January 2009 guests are able to stay in the Jumbo Hostel. [2]
The JumboStay has 33 rooms with most four beds in each, along with a more expensive and luxurious "cockpit suite" located on the upper deck. Altogether, the hostel holds 76 beds. All rooms have access to WiFi, a flat screen television where guests can watch the departure times for all flights. Throughout the jetliner guests have access to wireless broadband. All rooms share a shower and toilet in the corridor, except for the Black Box suite, the cockpit suite and a single person room which feature their own. The Jumbo Stay also features smaller rooms in the engines and in the wheel houses. [3]
The JumboStay's café allows guests and non-guests to purchase breakfast, coffee, pastries and basic meals. The cafe provides microwave ovens for patrons to heat up meals they have brought with them.
The distance from the terminals is 1.5–2 km (0.93–1.24 mi). The transfer buses to the long term parking area can be used.

The Boeing 747 is a large wide-body airliner and cargo aircraft manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes in the United States. After introducing the 707 in October 1958, Pan Am wanted a jet 2½ times its size, to reduce its seat cost by 30% to democratize air travel. In 1965, Joe Sutter left the 737 development to design the 747, the first twin aisle airliner. In April 1966, Pan Am ordered 25 747-100 aircraft and in late 1966, Pratt & Whitney agreed to develop its JT9D, a high-bypass turbofan. On September 30, 1968, the first 747 was rolled out of the custom-built Everett Plant, the largest building by volume. The first flight took place on February 9, 1969 and the 747 was certified in December of that year. It entered service with Pan Am on January 22, 1970; it was the first plane dubbed a "Jumbo Jet".

Stockholm Arlanda Airport is an international airport located in the Sigtuna Municipality of Sweden, near the town of Märsta, 37 kilometres (23 mi) north of Stockholm and nearly 40 kilometres (25 mi) south-east of Uppsala. The airport is located within Stockholm County and the province of Uppland. It is the largest airport in Sweden and the third-largest airport in the Nordic countries. The airport is the major gateway to international air travel for large parts of Sweden. Arlanda Airport was used by close to 27 million passengers in 2017, with 21.2 million international passengers and 5.5 million domestic.

Sterling Airlines A/S was a low-cost airline with its head office at Copenhagen Airport South in Dragør, Dragør Municipality, Denmark. It was created in September 2005 through the merger of two Danish airlines — Sterling European Airlines and Maersk Air — which had been acquired by the Icelandic investment group Fons Eignarhaldsfélag a few months before for MDKK 500. Fons was owned by Icelandic business tycoon Palmi Haraldsson. One month after the merger, Sterling Airlines was sold to the FL Group for an amount of MDKK 1500. In December 2006, Sterling was sold again, this time to Nordic Travel Holding. On 6 January 2006, Hannes Þór Smárason, CEO of the FL Group, stated that a merger of EasyJet and Sterling was a possibility.

(JAZ), formerly Japan Air Charter Co., Ltd., was an international airline registered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, Japan, with its headquarters and its main hub at Narita International Airport. Tower Air was a certificated FAR 121 U.S. charter airline that also operated scheduled passenger service from 1983 until 2000, when the company declared bankruptcy and was liquidated. It is the owner of the airlines Scandinavian Airlines and Scandinavian Airlines Ireland. SAS once owned 19.9% of the now defunct Spanish airline Spanair as well as shares in Estonian Air and Skyways Express. SAS Group is partially owned by the governments of Sweden and Denmark with a 14.82% and 14.24% ownership, respectively. Nova Airlines AB, operating as Novair, is a Swedish airline headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden that operates on behalf of one of Sweden's largest travel agencies, Apollo, which is also the parent company. It operates charter flights mainly to the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands. In the past it also operated long-haul flights to destinations including Thailand, India, and Indonesia as well as the Caribbean. Its main base and hub of operations is Stockholm Arlanda Airport, but the airline also operates from Oslo Airport, Copenhagen Airport, Gothenburg Landvetter Airport and Billund Airport. The airline is currently owned by the German corporation DER Touristik which is a part of the REWE Group, and employs approximately 70 pilots and 245 cabin crew to operate their current fleet of Airbus A321neo aircraft.
Erik Nielsen Whitehorse International Airport is an international airport located in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. It is part of the National Airports System, and is owned and operated by the Government of Yukon. The airport was renamed in honour of longtime Yukon Member of Parliament Erik Nielsen on December 15, 2008. The terminal handled 294,000 passengers in 2012, representing a 94% increase in passenger traffic since 2002. By 2017, this number had risen to 366,000. Air North is based in Whitehorse.
