KPHI first signed on September 23, 2008, with an original Pilipino music (OPM) format. [2] The station, which originally was supposed to have the call letters KRUD, replaced the multicultural KORL, which signed off that same day in part due to the former having a more powerful signal. [3]
In early 2019, KPHI flipped to a Hawaiian music format as "Shaka 96.7". [4] [5]
