The KTM 450 EXC is a 4-stroke enduro off-road motorcycle made by KTM. The models are the European road legal 400 EXC and 450 EXC, the US 450 (Close Ratio) XC and 450 (Wide Ratio) XC-W. The European EXC versions have a small headlight, speedometer, tail-light and somewhat softer linkless (PDS) rear suspension. The US EXC is 50-states street legal.
The factory RFS (Racing Four Stroke) KTM 400 EXC won the 1999 World Enduro Championship. [1] The 2000 RFS KTM 400 EXC had a right side kickstarter but also had the E-start button. KTM took a different approach to the configuration of the motor than most other manufacturers. While others used a 90mm-plus bore piston with a very short stroke of 60mm, the KTM RFS motor used an 89mm x 64mm boiconfiguration which provided more torque at the expense of higher RPM's. [2]
This was the first year of the 450 EXC model. It evolved from the earlier 400 EXC model, with an increased displacement via a longer stroke.
The new 2003 model saw changes with a updated rear sub frame, airbox, rear fender and side panels changed to one peace, changes to fuel tank, seat & carb boot, the front manifold changing from a twin pipe to single.
These years saw a new frame. Improving the handling without major changes. Rear body work changed to the single piece design off the SX model. The 2006 450 EXC made 42 hp (31 kW) and 37.5 ft-lbs. torque. [3]
This was the first year that the 450 EXC was offered in full factory 50-state street legal trim. The conversion of the previously available model required changes in gearing, exhaust, DOT approved tires and lights and the addition of turn signals, and a horn. Other than these changes the bike was virtually the same as the previously off-road only bike. [4] The US off-road only version of the EXC was replaced by the XC (Close-ratio transmission) and XC-W (wide-ratio transmission) models. 2007 was also the last year of the RFS motor. The RFS is very torquey and is known to have very good reliability. In some cases, the fully stock engines last for more than 45k miles. The RFS bike is known to be a good dual sport and super motard bike. The wide ratio 6-speed transmission will run all day long on the highway. Due to their dual-sport ability, there are larger aftermarket fuel tanks available (11~26L). [5] [6] [1]
As of 2008 the US version of the 450 EXC continued to be sold in street legal trim but was replaced by the off-road only 450 XC or 450 XC-W in the US market. A new chassis was introduced in 2008 with improvements in suspension and handling. The RFS motor available in 250 cc, 400 cc, 450 cc and 510 cc models between 2000 and 2007 was replaced with the XC4 motor beginning with the 2008 model year. The XC4 450's have more power; with a 95 mm x 63.4 mm bore and stroke producing about 51 hp (38 kW). [7] Reliability may have gone down; some people experience top-end issues with the new engine, while others run without incident. 2008 models had oil migration issues(fixed on 2009 models).
Offered as the Champions Edition in 2010. New features include new front Brembo brake caliper, PDS needle design, frame welded to steering head 10mm lower, reinforced gearbox (1,2,5,6 idler gears), reworked chain adjuster & clamping rail, better tension on timing chain (noise reduction). Oil pump gears, shaft, cover and o-ring also updated on 2011 models.
For 2012, new features include EFI Fuel-injection, a diaphragm spring clutch and a lighter battery. The XC(W) and XC(F) models both have a plug on the right side of the engine case where a kick start lever can be added.

A new chassis, motor, ergos, and WP XPlor 48MM forks and PDS shock. They achieved a weight reduction of 5 kg from 2016. The seat height was lowered by 10mm to 38 inches and the foot pegs raised by 6mm for better ground clearance. [8]

Gas Gas is a Spanish motorcycle manufacturer established in 1985 by Narcìs Casas and Josep Pibernat in Salt, Girona. The company specializes in off-road motorcycles for trials and enduro competitions. Gas Gas was purchased by KTM motorcycles in 2019. After the sale to KTM, Spanish motorcycle manufacturer Rieju bought the right to produce old Gas Gas off-road models.
Rokon is an American Rochester, New Hampshire-based motorcycle manufacturer that builds two-wheel-drive off-road motorcycles which are marketed either under the company's name, or as the "Trail Breaker". Robert Korpi was also owner of Rokon International from about 1976 to 1990
Husaberg was a manufacturer of enduro motorcycles with four and two-stroke engines, the displacements ranging from 125 cc to 650 cc. Originally based in Sweden, its motorcycles were later manufactured in Austria by parent company KTM until the line was retired in 2014.

The Yamaha WR450F is an off-road motorcycle made by Yamaha Motor Company. It currently has a 450 cc (27 cu in) liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine. First offered in 1998 at 400cc, it shared many components and design concepts with the YZ400F motocross model. It is basically the racing YZ450F detuned slightly for more controllable power, with a headlight and lighting coil, softer suspension, a kickstand, lower noise specifications, larger radiators and lower emissions. The WR in the name indicates a wide-ratio gear box common to most enduro or trail bikes and stands in contrast to the close-ratio gearbox essential to a motocross racer. Over the years the WR has benefited from the advances made in the YZ motocross version gaining displacement and advancements such as an aluminum frame and improved suspension. Over much of its life the weight of the WR450F has remained fairly constant ranging from 244 to 249 pounds dry weight.

Beta is an Italian motorcycle manufacturer, specialising in off-road motorcycles. Beta is best known for their popular observed trials bikes. In 2005, they launched a range of enduro motorcycles using KTM engines. In 2010 they launched the new RR series, with a new engine made in-house. Beta motorcycles have been used by world trials champions such as Jordi Tarrés, Dougie Lampkin, Albert Cabestany and Enduro riders Steve Holcombe and Brad Freeman. Production in 2018 was expected to be in excess of 20,000 motorcycles, ranging in size from 50 cc to 480 cc.
The Yamaha YZ450F is a four-stroke racing motocross bike built by Yamaha Motor Corporation. It was the successor to the previous YZ426F which was discontinued in 2003. It is credited by Cycle World and Dirt Rider magazines as the bike that started the four-stroke dirt bike revolution. The 2006 YZ250F and YZ450F were the first production motorcycles equipped with titanium suspension springs.

The KTM 690 Enduro is a dual-sport motorcycle made by KTM from 2008 to the present day. The 690 Enduro R, introduced in 2009, was initially marketed as a more offroad-oriented version of the adventure-touring-oriented Enduro. The 690 Enduro nomenclature was dropped in 2011; the 690 Enduro R remains in serial production as of January 2024.
The KTM 500 EXC is one model in the series of 4-stroke enduro off-road motorcycle made by KTM. They are essentially the 400/450 EXCs with changes to the stroke to achieve larger displacements. The 520, 525, 530 and 500 are all in fact 510.4 cc motors given different model numbers to distinguish them. Like the other KTM enduro offerings, they vary in the set-up and components. The international EXC versions have a small headlight, speedometer, tail-light and somewhat softer linkless (PDS) rear suspension. 2007 was the first year the EXC was deemed street legal in the US. As of 2008 the US version of the EXC, with the new XC-4 motor, continued to be sold in street legal trim. In 2012, the US 50-states street legal 530 EXC-R was rebadged the 500 EXC. In mid 2016, the 2017 bikes were introduced, adding a 250cc version. It joins the 350 and 500 EXC-F.
The KTM 300 is a series of 2-stroke enduro / off-road motorcycles made by KTM. They are the Penton-inspired 1984 300 GS, the 300 DMX, the dirt only 300 MXC, European road legal 300 EXC and the US 300 XC (close-ratio), 300 XC-W and 300 SX (Motocross) versions. The KTM 300 is designed for difficult off-road conditions. The 300 EXC and the 300 XC-W have a small headlight, speedometer, tail-light and somewhat softer linkless PDS suspension. Starting in 2008 all 300's came with electric start. Since the early 2000s KTM has been offering the XC-W model in a special "Six-Days" or "ERZBERGRODEO" limited edition.
The KTM 200 consists of a series of two-stroke off-road enduro motorcycles made by KTM, the European, road legal 200 EXC, 200 MXC and the 200 XC-W for the US market being the last versions. The 200 attempts to combine the agility of a 125 cc class motorcycle with the power of a 250 cc. As a small bore enduro bike it is equipped with a wide-ratio gear box. Starting in 2013 all 200's came with electric start.
The KTM 950 Super Enduro R is a dual-sport motorcycle produced from 2006 to 2008. It is equipped with a 98-horsepower, four-stroke, V-twin engine, adjustable heavy-duty offroad suspension, and enduro styling. Due to its light weight and offroad-capable profile, the 950SE was perceived at its launch as a radical departure from any existing dual-sport, enduro, or street bike models, while having characteristics of all three.
The Ducati 450 Scrambler, also known in the US as the Ducati Jupiter and in Europe as the Ducati 450 SCR is an on/off-road 436 cc (26.6 cu in) single cylinder bevel drive SOHC motorcycle produced by the Italian manufacturer Ducati from 1969 to 1974. Total production was around 11,000 machines.
