Kagara is a community in Niger State, Nigeria, the headquarters of the Rafi Local Government Area.

Kagara is part of the Niger East Senatorial district, and is the seat of the Kagara Emirate. [1] The other two major emirates in the state are the Minna Emirate and the Suleja Emirate, each of which expect political representation in the state if not at the national level. [2] Early in 2010 the state government sacked the chairman of the local government area and set up a commission of inquiry to probe the council's financial undertakings during his term in office. In December 2010, a Minna High Court ordered his reinstatement. [3]

The town has a talc processing plant. [4] Construction of a dam was initiated in 1979 for a sum of N5 billion. [5] The Federal University of Technology Minna carried out the Environmental Impact assessment for the Upper Niger River Basin and Rural Development Authority (UNRBDA). [6] About N3 billion had been paid by February 2002, when the Minister of Water Resources, Muktar Shagari, gave the contractor a deadline to complete the dam by December that year. [5] In February 2004 the Minister of State for Water Resources, Mr. Bashr Ishola Awotorebo visited the dam site, and as a result called the contractor to account for delays in the project. [7] In August 2004, while presenting 500 hand pumps from the Federal Government to the Niger State Governor, Abdulkadir Kure, Mukhtar Shagari said the dam project could be doomed due to non-approval of the budgetary allocation. [8] In August 2007, Bala Kuta of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, a National House of Assembly representative, pledged to help with the dam project. [9]

One student is killed and 27 students, three teachers, twelve family members) were kidnapped by bandits on 17 February 2021. [10]

Remains of the Iron Age Nok culture have been found at Kagara, which lies at the far northwest end of the zone of Nok culture. [11]

Barewa College is a college in Zaria, Kaduna State, northern Nigeria. Founded in 1921 by British Governor General Hugh Clifford, it was originally known as Katsina College. It is one of the largest boarding schools in Northern Nigeria and was the most-celebrated post-primary schools there up to the early 1960s. Ibrahim Taiwo was a Military Governor of Kwara State from July 1975 to February 1976 during the military regime of General Murtala Mohammed. He assisted in establishment of the University of Ilorin, which was founded by decree August, 1975.

Muhammadu Bello Abubahkar Masaba Bida, also known as Mohammed Bello Abubakar, was born in Nigeria. Masaba is known for having stirred up controversy in his hometown Bida, Niger State due to his extensive polygamy, and for being outspoken, he was charged under Sharia law and sent to prison in 2008 for refusing to divorce 82 of his wives. Islam limits the number of wives a Muslim man can have to four, mandating they must be all treated equally. He married 120 wives, divorced 10, and fathered 203 children. At the time of his death in 2017, some of his wives were believed to be pregnant.

Bello Jibrin Gada is a Nigerian politician who was Senator for Sokoto East from May 1999 to May 2003. He was appointed Minister of Culture & Tourism on 17 December 2008 after a cabinet reshuffle by President Umaru Yar'Adua. He left office in March 2010 when Acting President Goodluck Jonathan dissolved his cabinet.

Barrister Mukhtar Shehu Shagari, CFR was appointed Nigerian Minister of Water Resources in a June 2001 reshuffle of the cabinet of President Olusegun Obasanjo. He was later appointed President of the African Ministers Council On Water (AMCOW). Shagari held office until January 2007 when he left to compete for Deputy Governor of Sokoto State. He was elected Deputy Governor of Sokoto State in April 2007, and after a legal challenge was reelected in May 2008.

The Goronyo Dam impounds the Rima River in Goronyo local government area of Sokoto State in the northern Nigeria. It was completed in 1984 and commissioned in 1992. The dam is a sand-fill structure with a height of 21 m and a total length of 12.5 km. It has a storage capacity of 976 million cubic meters. The dam will be important in controlling floods and releasing water in the dry season for the planned Zauro polder project downstream in Kebbi State.

The Minna prison break was an attack on Minna medium prison, Minna in the northwestern Nigerian city of Niger State by three unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers. The attack occurred on 6 December 2014. 270 prisoners escaped from the prison leaving a security officer injured. The escaped prisoners were largely gangs of armed robbers, awaiting trial. It was reported that one of the notorious armed robbers in the prison called Osama took part in the jail break.

Mohammad Yahaya Kuta is a Nigerian academic, writer and professor of Agricultural and Forestry, University of Ibadan. He serves as Secretary to the state government of Niger state by Governor Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu, and was also commissioner for information and agriculture in Niger State.

Abdullahi Bawa Wuse is a Nigerian legal practitioner and politician who was elected Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly in 2019. He was elected to the state assembly for the first term in March 2019 on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) to represent Tafa constituency. The house standing order was waved to allow first term house members to contest in the election.  Wuse was a sole candidate in the election and emerged speaker of the house through a unanimous vote following his nomination by Ahmed Mohammed Marafa who was the immediate speaker of the House.

It is a unicameral legislature with 27 members elected from the 25 local government areas of the state. Local government areas with considerable lager population are delineated into two constituencies to give equal representation. The Kagara Emirate is a traditional state which located in Kagara near to Pandogari town, Kagara is the capital of Rafi local government Niger State, Nigeria. The Emirate is located in Niger East Senatorial District.

Pandogari is a town (ward) in Kagara, the capital of Rafi local government in Niger State, Nigeria. There is a large Hill which called Kongoma hill, in Fulfulde (Kwangwamaje), Kongoma hill located at the eastern Pandogari. The distance from the state capital Minna to Pandogari is about 156.7km. Pandogari is headed by a district head called Hakimi in Hausa language, and the current Hakimi of Pandogari is Alhaji Idris Aliyu Jibril. There are three major languages in Pandogari town; they are Hausa, Fulani and Ɓurawa.
