Kalibata is a kelurahan (literally "ward", in this case the smallest unit in the sub-division of urban areas), part of Pancoran which is itself a subdistrict of South Jakarta, Indonesia. The ward name comes from "kali" and "bata" meaning river mostly filled with rocks, so the local people called this place as Kalibata [1] The word Kalibata started to be a common word when a shoes factory plant, Bata that was located there during the previous Dutch occupation. [2]
Kalibata is noteworthy as the location of the Kalibata Military Cemetery or "Heroes' Cemetery", where veterans of the Indonesian National Revolution and other prominent people are buried - including National Heroes of Indonesia.
Australia's Prime Ministers Rudd and Gillard have paid visits to lay wreaths at the cemetery. [3] [4]
The 12-hectare superblock in South Jakarta, Kalibata City applies the concept of Affordable Public Residential Superblock that consists of Kalibata Residences, Kalibata Regency and Green Palace Apartment. The superblock features Kalibata City Square, a state of the art mall located at the center of Kalibata City, as well as schools, offices and commercial areas. The 7,000 sqm Kalibata City Forest, which serves as Outbound Adventure Park, is designed to be the 'lung' of the superblock. [5]
Several residents of Kalibata City formed an organization called Komunitas Warga Kalibata City (KWKC) to pursue their objectives in advocating against predation by the apartment management. On 10 April 2016, KWKC launched its website [6] consisting features such as news, events and forum.
On 1 October 2013, there was a murder case in Ebony tower, one of the kalibata city complex tower. [7] On 9 October 2013, two people allegedly have connection to the murder are arrested. [8]
In February 2015, dozens of residents staged a protest by walking around the apartment buildings. They protest because the apartments' maintenance fees have increased by 43 percent and the apartment management's lack of transparency. Also there are many criminal acts in this apartment complex, like murder, drug abuse and robbery. [9]
On 26 April 2015, Kalibata City is allegedly linked to the online prostitution practice. The Jakarta Police arrested members of a prostitution ring operating out of the Kalibata City after discovering that the group had been attracting customers through Twitter. [10] [11]

Depok (Sundanese:ᮓᮨᮕᮧᮊ᮪) is a landlocked city in West Java province. It is located directly south of Jakarta within the Jakarta Metropolitan Area in Indonesia. It has an area of 199.91 km2. It had a population of 1,738,600 at the 2010 census and 2,056,400 at the 2020 census; the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 2,145,400, resulting in a density of 10,731.8 people per km2. Depok was created as a separate city on 20 April 1999, having previously been part of Bogor Regency. It constitutes the second most populous suburban city in Indonesia, and the tenth most populous suburban city globally.
Tasikmalaya is a landlocked city in West Java, Indonesia. The city is sometimes dubbed kota santri or "the City of a Thousand Pesantrens" for its abundance of Islamic boarding schools. Located around 120 kilometres (75 mi) southeast from the provincial capital of Bandung, Tasikmalaya is passed by Indonesian National Route 3.

Bandung Regency is an administrative landlocked regency located to the south, southeast, east and northeast of the city of Bandung. Klaten Regency is a regency in Central Java province in Indonesia. Pancoran is a district (kecamatan) of South Jakarta, one of the five administrative cities that form Jakarta, Indonesia. Pancoran District was originally part of Mampang Prapatan District until it was split off to form its district in 1990.

The National Main Heroes' Cemetery in Kalibata, colloquially known as Kalibata Heroes' Cemetery, is a military cemetery in Kalibata, South Jakarta, Indonesia. It was built in 1953 and opened on 10 November 1954. Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie was the first Indonesian President to be buried in the cemetery following his death on 11 September 2019. Former Indonesian foreign minister Agus Salim, who died 6 days before the cemetery was opened, was the first senior politician buried in the cemetery. There were also 121 bodies moved from Heroes' Cemetery in Ancol.

Second Sergeant Usman bin Haji Muhammad Ali, also spelt Osman bin Haji Mohamed Ali, was an Indonesian marine and convicted murderer. He uses the aliases Janatin or Usman Janatin during his task of bombing the MacDonald House, which killed three people and injured 33 other people. Usman was executed alongside his accomplice Harun Said for the murders of the three deceased victims from the MacDonald House bombing.
The 2010 Vatican employee sex scandal was an incident in March 2010 in which two part-time employees of the Holy See, a consultant who also served as a lay attendant of the pope and another who was a professional member of the Saint Peter's Choir, were reported in the press to be part of a homosexual male prostitution ring. The Catholic Church considers prostitution and homosexual acts to be gravely sinful offenses and the Vatican severed its connections with both men, one of whom had been arrested.

The 2018 Surabaya bombings were a series of terrorist attacks that initially occurred on 13 May 2018 in three churches in Surabaya, the second largest city in Indonesia and the capital of East Java province. The explosions occurred at Immaculate Saint Mary Catholic Church on Ngagel Madya Street; Indonesia Christian Church on Diponegoro Street; and Surabaya Central Pentecost Church on Arjuno Street. The first explosion took place at the SMTB Church; the second and third explosions followed within an hour.
The 2019 Papua protests were a series of protests by Papuans in Indonesia that began on 19 August 2019 and mainly took place across Indonesian Papua region in response to the arrests of 43 Papuan students in Surabaya, East Java for alleged disrespect of the Indonesian flag. Many of the protests involved thousands of participants, and some grew from local protests in Surabaya to demanding an independence referendum for the whole region. In several locations, the protests turned into general riots, resulting in the destruction of government buildings in Wamena, Sorong and Jayapura. Clashes between protesters and police resulted in injuries, with over 30 people killed from both the clashes and the rioting.
A series of mass protests led by students took place at major cities in Indonesia from 23 September 2019, to rally against new legislation that reduces the authority of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), as well as several bills including a new criminal code that penalises extramarital sex and defamation against the president. The protesters consisted of mostly students from over 300 universities, with no association with any particular political parties or groups. The protests were the most prominent student movement in Indonesia since the 1998 riots that brought down the Suharto regime.
John Refra, popularly known as John Kei, is an Indonesian gangster of Sember origin. John Kei has operated a debt collection business through his organization Angkatan Muda Kei. His debt collection ring has become one of the largest gang organizations in Jakarta, together with Hercules, Basri Sangaji, and Thalib Makarim's gangs.
