Kanchana 4 (marketed as Muni 5: Kanchana 4) is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language comedy horror film co-produced, written and directed by Raghava Lawrence. Produced by Goldmines Telefilms, it is the fifth instalment in the Muni film series. The film stars Lawrence, Pooja Hegde and Nora Fatehi.
Following the success of Kanchana 2 (2015), Lawrence confirmed that more films in the series would continue to be made. The fifth instalment was officially announced in April 2019, shortly before the release of the fourth film, Kanchana 3 . Principal photography commenced in January 2025 in Chennai followed with schedules in Pollachi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.
Following the success of Kanchana 2 (2015), Raghava Lawrence confirmed that films in the horror comedy franchise would continue to be made. [2] The fifth instalment was officially announced in April 2019, with the theatrical success of the fourth film, Kanchana 3 . [3] The film was to be produced by Sun Pictures, but later opted out of the film due to budgetary constraints. Later, the Mumbai-based production and distribution company, Goldmines Telefilms, which had distributed the Hindi dubbed versions of Kanchana and Kanchana 2 , took over the production rights. [4] [5] [6] The scripting of the film was completed by June 2024. [7] [8]
In September 2024, Lawrence finalised the cast. [9] Pooja Hegde was cast as the female lead, in her first collaboration with Lawrence. [10] [11] Nora Fatehi was roped in for a pivotal role in January 2025. [12] Kovai Sarala, Devadarshini, Sriman and several actors from fourth part joined the cast for reprising their roles. [13] [14] Ramachandra Raju joined the cast to play the antagonist. [15] Hima Bindhu and Redin Kingsley joined the cast in February 2025. [16] [17]
Principal photography commenced on 23 January 2025 in Chennai. [18] [19] The second schedule began in Pollachi, with the filming taking place at Masani Amman temple. [20] Then the shooting took place at a specially erected set in a village at Thiruvallur district, where action sequences were shot. [21] Then the production moved to Hyderabad. [22] After wrapping the Hyderabad schedule, the next schedule began in Mumbai in March 2025. [23] Reportedly, an aeroplane crash sequence was shot from 9 March 2025 for five days, at a specially erected set in Naigaon City Studios, Mumbai. [24] The fourth schedule was completed by April 2025 in East Coast Road, Chennai. [15]
Kanchana 4 is scheduled to release in theatres in 2026 [25] in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam languages. [26] [27]
Manish Shah ensured that the film will only have it's digital release after eight weeks theatrical release. [28]
