Kara Lord (born March 24, 1988 [1] ) is a Guyanese model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Guyana 2011 and represented her country in Miss Universe 2011. [2]

Pageants

Lord, from Georgetown, [3] competed as one of the nine finalists in her country's national beauty pageant, Miss Guyana Universe 2011. Despite technical difficulties and rain, [4] [5] Lord won the opportunity to compete in the 2011 Miss Universe pageant in São Paulo, Brazil on September 12, 2011. [6]

In 2011, Lord was on the judges panel of the Elite Model Look contest to select Guyana's representation for the Caribbean region. [7] She was also a guest model during Guyana Fashion Weekend 2011. [8]

In 2012, Lord said she was "honoured to have represented Guyana on an international stage and thrilled to pass on her crown so that another beautiful young woman can have the unforgettable experience she did." [9]

Education

Lord attended St. Joseph High School, and the University of the West Indies where she studied psychology. [1] [10]

Miss Guyana is the national Beauty pageant in Guyana where the Titleholder/National Winner represents Guyana at the Miss World competition. Guyana first placed at the Miss World competition in 1966 which was the first of six consecutive placements from semifinalist to top 3 finish from 1966 to 1971.[3] The Miss Guyana trademark is under Natasha Martindale directorship.

Arti Cameron is an Afro-Guyanese model and beauty pageant titleholder. She graduated from LaGuardia Community College in 2008. She was named Miss Guyana in 2011, but she was unable to obtain a visa in time to participate in the Miss World 2011 pageant, so her entry was deferred to the following year's international competition. She met with Bharrat Jagdeo, President of Guyana, after having won the national competition. At the Miss World 2012 pageant, Cameron won the People's Choice Award. It is traditional for beauty queens to be tall in order to better showcase their legs, but Cameron was one of several contestants at Miss World 2012 who were petite. The pageant was held in China and Cameron praised Chinese architecture while she was there. The Guyana Tri-State Alliance provided Cameron with three cocktail dresses for the competition. That July, Cameron appeared at the JRG Bikini Under the Bridge Fashion Show in New York City, New York, United States. Her reign as Miss Guyana lasted until 2013.
