Karam Singh is a town in the Islamabad Capital Territory of Pakistan. It is located at 33° 28' 50N 73° 24' 15E with an altitude of 605 metres (1988 feet). [1]
Shamsher Singh Sheri, commonly known by his nom de guerre, Karam Singh, was a communist leader and a Politburo member of the CPI (Maoist) in India.
Subedar and Honorary Captain Karam Singh PVC, MM was an Indian soldier and a recipient of the Param Vir Chakra (PVC), India's highest award for gallantry. Singh joined the army in 1941, and took part in the Burma Campaign of World War II, receiving the Military Medal for his actions during the Battle of the Admin Box in 1944. He also fought in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947, and was awarded the PVC for his role in saving a forward post at Richhmar Gali, south of Tithwal. He was also one of the five soldiers chosen to raise the Indian flag for the first time after independence in 1947. Singh later rose to the rank of subedar, and was conferred the rank of honorary captain before his retirement in September 1969.
Dharam Karam is a 1975 Hindi drama film produced by Raj Kapoor and directed by Randhir Kapoor, who also stars as father and son in the film, respectively. The film also stars Rekha, Premnath and Dara Singh. The music is by R.D. Burman and the lyrics by Majrooh Sultanpuri, who received a Filmfare nomination as Best Lyricist for the hit song "Ek Din Bik Jayega." The song is played 4 times during the film, with playback singing by Kishore Kumar, Mukesh and Sushma Shrestha. Of the three of them, only Mukesh received a Filmfare nomination as Best Male Playback Singer for the song. According to one source, the film performed "Below Average" at the box office.
