Karen Gaviola is an American television producer and director. She is the winner of the 2007 NAACP Image Award for directing "The Whole Truth" episode of the ABC hit series Lost . [1] She was also nominated for the 2013 WIN (Women's Image Network) Award for best directing of the "Georgia on My Mind" episode of the Shonda Rhimes series Private Practice .

Life and career

Karen is a second-generation Filipina American. She is a graduate of Immaculate Heart High School (Los Angeles) and Harvard College.

Gaviola has directed over 140 TV episodes, including the shows Lucifer , Shadow and Bone , [2] [3] Empire , Sons of Anarchy , The Blacklist , Hawaii Five-0 , CSI: Crime Scene Investigation , Grimm , Criminal Minds and Chicago Fire . [4] [5] [6]

More recently, she has worked as a co-executive producer/director on a number of projects including Lucifer , Hawaii Five-0 , Magnum P.I. and Love Is for Oprah Winfrey. Her latest project is Paper Girls , the new Amazon series based on the graphic novels by Brian K. Vaughan.

Gaviola was elected in June 2013 to the National Board of the Directors Guild of America . She is currently serving her fifth term. [7] She is active with the DGA TV Creative Rights Committee, the Women's Steering Committee, the Asian American Committee, and the Diversity Task Force. [8] In 2022, Gaviola was named as co-chair of the 2023 DGA/AMPTP Negotiations Committee. [9] Karen is also a member of the Producers Guild of America, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and Film Independent.

Kathleen Garretson is an American television director, producer and podcaster. Garretson has directed episodes of the sitcoms Frasier, 2 Broke Girls, Fuller House and the season one finale of the Punky Brewster reboot in 2021, among others, as well as producing Hallmark's Garage Sale Mystery movies. She received the Frank Capra Lifetime Achievement Award from the Directors Guild of America (DGA) in 2012. Garretson also hosted the hit podcast "Mojo Girl Madness."

Mairzee Almas is a Canadian filmmaker and television director from Vancouver. She has directed numerous TV shows, including Shadow and Bone, Y The Last Man, The Sandman, Locke & Key, Outlander, Impulse, Jessica Jones and 12 Monkeys amongst many others. Her directing work encompasses SVOD, Cable and Network outlets. She was also the Co-Executive Producer/Director for the second season of Impulse. Mairzee began her career as an actress, having trained at F.T.S. Performing Arts Conservatory in Vancouver. She then trained at the Vancouver Film School – graduating from their Foundation Film Program. Over the next several years, she advanced to become a sought after First AD, working on numerous film and television projects.  Her first directing opportunities came with episodes of Smallville and Da Vinci's Inquest. Since then, she has directed over 70 episodes of television and been nominated for multiple directing awards. She lives in Vancouver and works all around the world.

<i>Shadow and Bone</i> (TV series) 2021 American fantasy television series

Shadow and Bone is an American fantasy streaming television series developed by Eric Heisserer for Netflix. It is based on the written works of Leigh Bardugo, and set in the Grishaverse, which consists of the Shadow and Bone trilogy and the Six of Crows duology. All eight episodes of the first season premiered on April 23, 2021. In June 2021, the series was renewed for a second season, also consisting of eight episodes, which premiered on March 16, 2023. In November 2023, the series was canceled after two seasons.
