Millicent B. Shelton (born January 29, 1966) is an American music video, television and film director.

Contents

Shelton began her career as a wardrobe production assistant on the Spike Lee film Do the Right Thing (1989). She went on to direct music videos for artists such as Mary J. Blige, R. Kelly, Aaliyah, CeCe Peniston and Salt-n-Pepa.

Her other directing credits include the motion picture Ride (1998) and episodes of Everybody Hates Chris , The Bernie Mac Show , Girlfriends , The Walking Dead, Castle , Californication , My Name Is Earl , 90210 , Men of a Certain Age , Pan Am , Leverage , and 30 Rock , for which she became the first African-American woman to receive a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for the episode "Apollo, Apollo". She is an alumna of Princeton University [2] and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. [1]

Mercury Records released the stirring song "Freedom " in 1995. More than sixty African-American female musicians from pop, R&B, and hip-hop groups and artists make up the chorus. En Vogue, Xscape, Aaliyah, Vanessa L. Williams, Mary J. Blige, MC Lyte, SWV, TLC, and Monica are among the notable contributions. "Freedom" was recorded immediately following the 1995 American Music Awards. American recording artist CeCe Peniston entered the music industry as a backup vocalist on the Overweight Pooch's album Female Preacher, released in July 1991 on A&M Records. Shortly before that, she was featured on the B-side to 12-inch single "I Can't Take the Power" by male rapper Marvelous JC. Besides her vocal performance on the Pooch's only charting track, "I Like It", she was given a credit for co-writing two compositions; "Kickin' Da Blues" and the titular "Female Preacher". Soon after, the singer pursued a solo career. By now, Peniston has released four studio albums including one as a member of The Sisters of Glory, two remix collections, one live album, four compilations and one live extended play (EP). Her singles discography features twenty-nine physical releases, twenty-one digital-only, seven promotional recordings and twenty-six other appearances; regardless of their format.
