Kate Airey OBE is a British diplomat serving as the British High Commissioner to Uganda since November 2020.
She was born and raised in Birmingham,UK and graduated from University of Oxford in 1999 with a BSc in Geography. [1]
She began her career working at Oxfam in September 1999 and moved to Shell International a year later,working as a Senior Consultant in Africa and Europe.
Airey joined the Foreign,Commonwealth &Development Office in 2005,and had roles in London including Africa Energy Adviser,Lead on Strategy,and Lead on Prosperity.
She held postings overseas in Abuja,Nigeria between 2007 and 2010 and was based in Freetown,Sierra Leone between 2014 and 2015,leading the response to the Ebola crisis both in Freetown as Deputy Head of the UK response and in London as Head of the FCDO Ebola Task Force,coordinating the UK end of the Foreign Policy response. For her work,she received an OBE in the Queen's New Years Honours in 2016. [2] [3]
She moved onto Namibia as the Head of the Nigeria Whitehall Unit,before becoming British High Commissioner to Namibia in Windhoek in November 2017,and started in January 2018. [4]
She was appointed British High Commissioner to Uganda at the end of 2019,and started in November 2020. [5]
Sierra Leone,officially the Republic of Sierra Leone,is a country on the southwest coast of West Africa. An economist and attorney by profession,Kabbah spent many years working for the United Nations Development Programme. He retired from the United Nations and returned to Sierra Leone in 1992.

Davidson Sylvester Hector Willoughby Nicol or pen named Abioseh Nicol was a Sierra Leone Creole academic,diplomat,physician,writer and poet. He was able to secure degrees in the arts,science and commercial disciplines and he contributed to science,history,and literature. Nicol was the first African to graduate with first class honours from the University of Cambridge and he was also the first African elected as a fellow of a college of Cambridge University. Davidson Nicol also contributed to medical science when he was the first to analyse the breakdown of insulin in the human body,a discovery which was a breakthrough for the treatment of diabetes.
Peter Alfred Penfold is a British retired diplomat. His career began in 1963,when he joined the Foreign Service as a clerical officer. Two years into his career,he was posted to the British embassy in Bonn,West Germany,and two years after that to Nigeria. From 1970 to 1972,Penfold served as a "floater" in Latin America,filling in as necessary for staff at British missions in the region. He served in Mexico during the 1970 football world cup,and on St Vincent,where he was responsible for organising an evacuation after a volcanic eruption. After Latin America,Penfold briefly served in Canberra,before returning to London to take a post in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). He earned early promotion to second secretary in Addis Ababa,Ethiopia,where he was responsible for reporting on the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) and the Eritrean War of Independence and was still in the country during the revolution,in which the pro-Western emperor was overthrown. After completing his tour in Ethiopia,Penfold served as information officer in Port of Spain and then as first secretary in the West Africa Department of the FCO.

An Ebola virus epidemic in Sierra Leone occurred in 2014,along with the neighbouring countries of Guinea and Liberia. On 18 March 2014,Guinean health officials announced the outbreak of a mysterious hemorrhagic fever "which strikes like lightning". It was identified as Ebola virus disease and spread to Sierra Leone by May 2014. The disease was thought to have originated when a child from a bat-hunting family contracted the disease in Guinea in December 2013.
Organizations from around the world responded to the West African Ebola virus epidemic. In July 2014,the World Health Organization (WHO) convened an emergency meeting with health ministers from eleven countries and announced collaboration on a strategy to co-ordinate technical support to combat the epidemic. In August,they declared the outbreak an international public health emergency and published a roadmap to guide and coordinate the international response to the outbreak,aiming to stop ongoing Ebola transmission worldwide within 6–9 months. In September,the United Nations Security Council declared the Ebola virus outbreak in the West Africa subregion a "threat to international peace and security" and unanimously adopted a resolution urging UN member states to provide more resources to fight the outbreak;the WHO stated that the cost for combating the epidemic will be a minimum of $1 billion.
In late October 2014,the United Kingdom sent a hospital ship,the Royal Fleet Auxiliary's Argus,to help the aid effort against the Ebola virus disease epidemic in Sierra Leone. By late October Sierra Leone was experiencing more than twenty deaths a day from Ebola.
Dame Sarah MacIntosh is a British diplomat who is the Deputy National Security Adviser for International Affairs. She previously served as High Commissioner to Sierra Leone,Ambassador to Liberia and British Ambassador to NATO from 2017 to 2022.

Prior to becoming head of the Freetown City Council,Aki-Sawyer had worked extensively in the UK financial and professional services industry. She had also taken either pioneering or crucial roles in various charity and public service projects in the UK and Sierra Leone,including participation in the fight against Ebola in 2014 and the subsequent recovery initiatives.
Monica Musenero Masanza is a Ugandan veterinarian,microbiologist and epidemiologist,who serves as a consultant epidemiologist to the government of Uganda and serves as an advisor to the president of Uganda on epidemics and pandemics. She previously served as the Principal Epidemiologist and Assistant Commissioner for Epidemiology and Surveillance in the Uganda Ministry of Health. She has previously played leading roles in the control of Ebola epidemics in Uganda,the Democratic Republic of the Congo and in the West African country of Sierra Leone.
