Katharina Magiera is a German operatic contralto. A member of the Oper Frankfurt, she has appeared in major European opera houses. She is active also as a lieder singer and has recorded.

Career

Magiera first studied piano and voice to be a music teacher in Mannheim. [1] She studied voice at the Musikhochschule Frankfurt with Hedwig Fassbender from 2003. [1] [2]

She has been a member of the ensemble of the Oper Frankfurt from 2009, [2] where she appeared as Wanja in Mikhail Glinka's Iwan Sussanin , as the Narrator in Debussy's La Damoiselle élue , as St. Catherine in Honegger's Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher ), as Nancy in Flotow's Martha which was recorded, as Margret in Berg's Wozzeck ), Marcellina in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro , the Third Lady in his Die Zauberflöte and as Annina in Der Rosenkavalier by Richard Strauss, among others. [2] In the 2017/18 season, she has performed the roles of Lisa, a former SS officer in Auschwitz, in Weinberg's Die Passagierin , [2] [3] of Maddalena in Verdi's Rigoletto , [2] and Teresa in Bellini's La sonnambula . [4] She has been Floßhilde in Wagners Der Ring des Nibelungen from 2010, staged by Vera Nemirova and conducted by Sebastian Weigle, which was live recorded on DVD. [5]

She appeared as a guest as Hänsel in Humperdick's Hänsel und Gretel at the die Bavarian State Opera, as Schwertleite in Wagner's Die Walküre at the Opéra du Rhin and at the Salzburg Easter Festival. She performed Mozart's Third Lady at the Paris Opéra. [2]

In concert, she appeared as a soloist in Mozart's Requiem, conducted by Teodor Currentzis, at his debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2017. [6] She recorded songs on texts by Goethe with guitar accompaniment. [2]

Sebastian Weigle is a German horn player and conductor. He is known for conducting the works of Richard Wagner in Bayreuth and the Oper Frankfurt.

She is especially known for portraying leading female characters in operas by Richard Strauss, such as the Marschallin, Arabella, Ariadne and Countess Madeleine. Tanja Ariane Baumgartner is a German operatic mezzo-soprano. A member of the Oper Frankfurt since 2009, she has enjoyed an international career, appearing in major European and American opera houses and the Salzburg Festival.

Paula Murrihy is an Irish operatic mezzo-soprano who has made an international career. A member of the Oper Frankfurt, she has appeared also in Europe and the US, including the Metropolitan Opera and the Santa Fe Opera

Vera Nemirova is a Bulgarian-German opera director who has worked at major opera houses in Europe, staging for example Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Oper Frankfurt. She directed for the Munich Biennale and the Salzburg Festival.

Elisabeth Kulman is an Austrian classical singer who has performed operatic roles in soprano, mezzo-soprano and contralto repertory. She has appeared at opera houses in Vienna and internationally. She has performed early operas such as Legrenzi's Il Giustino as well as new works, creating the role of Gora in the premiere of Reimann's Medea at the Vienna State Opera. She recorded Lieder by Mussorgsky, Bach's Christmas Oratorio with Peter Schreier and Beethoven's Missa solemnis with Nikolaus Harnoncourt. From 2015, she has focused on concert singing.

Hedwig Fassbender is a German operatic mezzo-soprano and academic voice teacher. She has appeared in leading roles at major European opera houses, including some soprano roles such as Wagner's Isolde and Sieglinde.

Britta Stallmeister is a German operatic soprano. A member of the Oper Frankfurt from 1998 to 2015, she has appeared in major European opera houses and international festivals. She has performed in premieres, and in recitals and recordings.

Kateryna Kasper is a Ukrainian operatic soprano. A member of the Oper Frankfurt, she has appeared in major international opera houses. She has performed in recitals and recordings. Her broad repertory includes works from Cavalieri's Spiel von Seele und Körper to the premiere of Der goldene Drache by Péter Eötvös.

Thomas Mohr is a German operatic tenor and academic voice teacher. He began his career as a baritone, but moved on to heldentenor and has performed roles in all tenor parts of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen at Der Ring in Minden. He has appeared at major international opera houses and concert halls, and made recordings. Mohr is a professor of voice at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen. He also runs an agricultural estate where he founded a music festival.

Bernd Loebe

Bernd Loebe is a German music journalist and opera manager. After working as a journalist with a focus on opera and voice for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), Neue Musikzeitung, Opernwelt and Hessischer Rundfunk, he was artistic director of the opera house of Brussels, La Monnaie, from 1990, and has been Intendant of the Oper Frankfurt since 2002, where he encouraged a capable ensemble, international guest artists, and the production of rarely performed operas. He received the 2018 International Opera Award in the category Leadership in Opera.
