Katholische Jungschar is the official organization for children of the Catholic church in Austria and South Tyrol and one of the lay movements of the Catholic action. [1] Katholische Jungschar is the biggest children organization in Austria. More 100,000 children take regularly part in its activities. The local groups are run by about 15,000 group leaders. Katholische Jungschar is a member of the umbrella of Catholic youth organizations Fimcap. [2]

"DKA" (Dreikönigsaktion), an aid foundation founded by the youth organization Katholische Jungschar, organizes the biggest carol singing campaign in Austria and South Tyrol. [3] Annually about 85,000 children and 30,000 take part in the "Dreikönigsaktion". [4]

Projects and campaigns for children's rights

Katholische Jungschar organizes different projects and campaigns promoting children's rights. Every year, it organizes a campaign on 20 November, the Universal Children's Day. [5]

Studies on the needs of children and on youth work

Katholische Jungschar also conducts and publishes research on the needs of children and on youth work. Together with "Die Kinderfreunde" and the "YOUNG RIGHTS ACTION PLAN" on commission by the Austrian ministry for social security, generations and consumer protection Katholische Jungschar asked children the question "What shall be improved for children and young people?" collecting 25,000 responses. IFM-SEI is a full member of the European Youth Forum (YFJ) which operates within the Council of Europe and European Union area and works closely with both these bodies. In Latin-America it is a full member of the Foro Latin-America de Juventud (FLAJ). It is also part of the International Coordination Meeting of Youth Organisations (ICMYO) which consists of worldwide active youth organisations and regional youth platforms coordinating their activities towards the UN and its agencies.

Die Freiheitlichen, abbreviated dF, is a regionalist, separatist and national-conservative political party in South Tyrol, Italy. The party, which is part of the South Tyrolean independence movement, seeks to represent the German-speaking majority and Ladin-speaking minority in the province and to separate it from Italy. Broadly speaking, its ideology is similar to that of the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) and the two parties maintain close contacts. The long-time leader and honorary president of the party is Pius Leitner. In the 2013 provincial election the party came a distant second to the dominant South Tyrolean People's Party (SVP).

The Südtiroler Pfadfinderschaft, abbreviated as SP, is the Roman Catholic Scout association of the German minority of the Italian province of South Tyrol. The association is coeducational and has 600 members in seven troops. It is affiliated to the Associazione Guide e Scouts Cattolici Italiani (AGESCI), is strongly connected to Pfadfinder und Pfadfinderinnen Österreichs and Slovenian Catholic Girl Guides and Boy Scouts Association Scouting organizations, and maintains some contact with the Deutsche Pfadfinderschaft Sankt Georg. The association owns two campsites in the province.

South Tyrolean Freedom is a regionalist, separatist and national-conservative political party in South Tyrol, Italy. The party, which is part of the South Tyrolean independence movement, seeks to represent the German-speaking population and proposes the secession of South Tyrol from Italy and its reunification with the State of Tyrol within Austria. Its founding leader was Eva Klotz.

Star singers also known as Epiphany singers, or Star boys' singing procession (England), are children and young people walking from house to house with a star on a rod and often wearing crowns and dressed in clothes to resemble the Three Magi. The singing processions have their roots in an old medieval ecclesiastical play, centred on the Biblical Magi of the Christmas story in the Gospel of Matthew, appropriate to Epiphany. It is observed usually during the period between 27 December and 6 January.

He was a member of the Italian Senate in the Italian Parliament from 2001 to 2013, Member of the Regional Parliament of Trentino South Tyrol from 1978 to 1998 and its president from 1988–1998. He was also President of the district of the South Tyrolean Unterland of the South Tyrolean People's Party (SVP) from 2001 to 2010.

The FIMCAP, which is short for Fédération Internationale des Mouvements Catholiques d’Action Paroissiale, is an umbrella organization for Catholic youth organizations. The "Katholische junge Gemeinde" is a major German Catholic youth organization. KjG has a democratic structure and local groups throughout Germany, mainly in Catholic parishes, with a total of about 80,000 members. The KjG is a member of the Catholic umbrella of youth organizations, Fimcap, and the German umbrella of Catholic youth organizations, BDKJ.

South Tyrolean German or Tyrolese is a dialect spoken in the northern Italian province of South Tyrol. It is generally considered to be a local variant of Southern Bavarian, and has many similarities with other South German languages such as Austrian German. The difference between other Bavarian and South Tyrolean is the influence of Italian and Ladin in its lexicon.

The Deutscher Verband was a coalition of bourgeois German-speaking political parties that was formed in South Tyrol in 1919 after the region was annexed by Italy. It was a merger of the Catholic Tiroler Volkspartei and the national liberal Deutschfreiheitliche Partei. The German-speaking Social Democrats, for their part, joined with the Italian Socialist Party.
