Kenneth William Hope (born 3 May 1939) [1] is an Irish former cricketer. A right-handed batsman and off spin bowler, [1] he played thirteen times for the Ireland cricket team between 1958 and 1966 [2] including nine first-class matches. [3]
Hope first played for Ireland in July 1958 against Scotland [2] in a first-class match [3] at the age of 19. [1] He had a poor debut, scoring five not out and taking 0/13. His second match, against the MCC in September the same year was even worse, with the same match bowling figures and scoring just one run in the match. [2]
Despite this poor start to his career he played five times for Ireland in 1959, playing against Scotland, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Leicestershire and the MCC. He played three times in 1960, against Scotland, Leicestershire and the MCC, and twice in 1961 against Leicestershire and Scotland. He did not play again for Ireland until September 1966, when he returned for one final match, against the MCC. [2]
In all matches for Ireland, he scored 98 runs at an average of 6.53, with a highest score of 21 against the MCC in September 1960. He took 26 wickets at an average of 21.35, with best bowling figures of 6/59 against Scotland in June 1960, the only time he took five wickets in an innings. [2] In first-class cricket, he scored 75 runs at an average of 6.81 and took twelve wickets at an average of 28.25. [1]
Arnold James Fothergill was an English professional cricketer who played first-class cricket for Somerset County Cricket Club and the MCC in a career which spanned from 1870 until 1892. A left-arm fast-medium pace bowler, he appeared for England in two Test matches in 1889.
Arthur Dick Pougher was an English professional cricketer and umpire who played for Leicestershire County Cricket Club from 1885 to 1901, and in one Test match for England in 1891–92. He was born at Humberstone, Leicestershire and died at Aylestone Park, Leicester.
Eric Leslie Kidd was an English-born Irish cricketer. A right-handed batsman and leg spin bowler, he played 147 first-class cricket matches, mostly for Middlesex, and played for the Ireland cricket team on six occasions.
Robert James Hamilton Lambert was an Irish cricketer. A right-handed batsman and a right-arm off spin bowler, he played 51 times for the Ireland cricket team between 1893 and 1930, including 23 first-class matches, captaining them on 13 occasions. He also played first-class cricket for London County and Woodbrook Club and Ground. On his death, the Wisden Cricketer's Almanack described him as the best all-rounder produced by Ireland.
William Harrington was an Irish cricketer. A right-handed batsman and off spin bowler, he played 28 times for the Ireland cricket team between 1894 and 1921, including fifteen first-class matches.
Garfield David Harrison is one of four brothers to have played cricket for the Ireland cricket team. Garfield was by far the most successful of the four, playing 118 times for Ireland between 1983 and 1997, including twelve first-class matches against Scotland and 20 List A matches.
William Raymond Hunter was a Northern Irish cricketer and rugby union player. He played for Ireland in both sports. In cricket he won 28 international caps and played in 11 first-class matches. In rugby he played ten times for Ireland in the Five Nations, scoring one try. He also played for the British and Irish Lions.
Francis "Frank" Fee is a former Irish cricketer.
Jonathan Digby Garth is a former Irish cricketer who played for the Irish national side between 1986 and 1989. A right-handed batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler, he was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, but raised in Dublin, where he attended The High School. Overall, he played 26 times for Ireland, including three first-class matches and four List A matches.
Samuel "Uel" Graham is an Irish former cricketer. A right-handed batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler, he played 18 times for the Ireland cricket team between 1992 and 1997, including two first-class matches, both of which were against Scotland, and ten List A matches.
John Ganly "Jacko" Heaslip was an Irish cricketer. A right-handed batsman and off spin bowler, he played 18 times for the Ireland cricket team between 1920 and 1933, including eight first-class matches. He also played two first-class matches for Dublin University.
Francis Stanley Arnot Hewitt was an Irish cricketer. A right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium and off spin bowler, he played three times for the Ireland cricket team between 1955 and 1966, including one first-class match against Scotland.
John William Hill was an Irish cricketer. A right-handed batsman and off spin bowler, he played fourteen times for the Ireland cricket team between 1946 and 1951, including seven first-class matches.
Nathan Bernard "Sonny" Hool was an Irish cricketer. A right-handed batsman and Left-arm orthodox spin bowler, he played fourteen times for the Ireland cricket team between 1947 and 1961, including nine first-class matches.
Samuel Scott Johnston Huey, usually known as Scott Huey was an Irish cricketer. A right-handed batsman and left-arm orthodox spin bowler, he played 36 times for the Ireland cricket team between 1951 and 1966 including twenty first-class matches. He is notable for being the last bowler to dismiss Sir Len Hutton in first-class cricket. He also represented Ireland at badminton. He was born in County Donegal.
Edward Ingram was an Irish cricketer. A right-handed batsman and right-arm medium pace/leg spin bowler, he played 48 times for the Ireland cricket team between 1928 and 1953 including nineteen first-class matches. He also played county cricket for Middlesex, playing twelve times between 1938 and 1949.
Alexander "Junior" McBrine is an Irish former cricketer. A right-handed batsman and left-arm orthodox spin bowler, he played 35 times for the Ireland cricket team between 1985 and 1994, including four first-class matches against Scotland and five List A matches. His twin brother James and son Andy have also played cricket for Ireland.
Thomas McCloy was born in Lambeg, County Antrim, Northern Ireland and was an Irish cricketer. A right-handed batsman and leg spin bowler, he played 30 times for the Ireland cricket team between 1951 and 1965 including twelve first-class matches.
