Kendall College at National Louis University is a private college which is part of National Louis University (NLU) in Chicago, Illinois, specializing in culinary arts and hospitality management. Kendall is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The Culinary Arts Associate and Baking and Pastry Associate programs are accredited by the American Culinary Federation [1] Education Foundation Accrediting Commission.

Founded in 1934, Kendall College was an independent college and later became a subsidiary of Laureate Education, Inc. [2] On August 6, 2018, National Louis University received approval from the Higher Learning Commission and the U.S. Department of Education to transfer Kendall College's programs and other assets from Laureate Education to the university.

History

In 1934, two seminarians endorsed by the Scandinavian Conference of the Methodist Church — one Swedish, the other Danish-Norwegian — formed Evanston Collegiate Institute in Evanston, Illinois. [3] Many early students found employment at the Washington National Insurance Company of Evanston, a major financial supporter of the school. [4]

In 1950, the school was renamed in honor of Washington National's founders, Curtis P. Kendall and his family.

Business programs at Kendall College began in the 1970s. The School of Business was created in 2007. In 1985, the School of Culinary Arts was established. Building on the culinary program, a Bachelor of Arts in Hotel and Restaurant Management was created in 1987. In 2005, the program was revised into a Bachelor of Arts in Hospitality Management. A partnership was later formed with Les Roches International School of Hotel Management and Glion Institute of Higher Education, including the creation of exchange programs with Les Roches campuses in Switzerland and Spain. In 2005, Kendall College moved from Evanston to Goose Island, Chicago, in the former Sara Lee Research and Development building. [6]

In 2008, Kendall College was acquired by Laureate Education. [7]

In 2018, Kendall College and its programs were transferred to National Louis University. [8] [9]

Accreditation

Kendall College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission [10] and is a member of the Culinary Arts Associate and Baking and Pastry Associate programs are accredited by the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation Accrediting Commission. [11]

Cooking school

Amateur cooking schools are often intertwined with culinary tourism in many countries. Programs can vary from half a day to several years. Some programs lead to an academic degree or a recognized vocational qualification, while others do not. Many programs include practical experience in the kitchen of a restaurant attached to the school or a period of work experience in a privately owned restaurant.

Illinois Institute of Art – Chicago

Illinois Institute of Art – Chicago was a for-profit art and culinary school, which briefly operated as a non-profit institution before it closed in 2018. The school was one of a number of Art Institutes, a franchise of for-profit art colleges with many branches in North America, owned and operated by Education Management Corporation. EDMC owned the college from 1975 until 2017, when, facing significant financial problems and declining enrollment, the company sold the Illinois Institute of Art – Chicago, along with 30 other Art Institute schools, to Dream Center Education, a Los Angeles-based Pentecostal organization.

Lexington College was a women's college with a Catholic inspiration located in Chicago, Illinois. The curriculum was focused entirely on hospitality management studies.

Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Portland Culinary school

The Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Portland, formerly the Western Culinary Institute (WCI), was a culinary school located in downtown Portland, Oregon, United States. The school was owned by the Career Education Corporation and it was also a partner with the French culinary institute Le Cordon Bleu. As of 2006, the school had an enrollment of 805 students. The school became affiliated with Le Cordon Bleu in 1999 and changed its name from the Western Culinary Institute in January 2010.

The American Culinary Federation (ACF) was established in 1929 in New York City and is the largest professional chefs' organization in North America. It was the progeny of the combined visions of three chefs' associations in New York City, the Société Culinaire Philanthropique, the Vatel Club and the Chefs de Cuisine Association of America.

Glion Institute of Higher Education

Glion Institute of Higher Education is an international hospitality management school with campuses in Switzerland and the UK. Glion offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs and short programs like Glion Summer Program, Luxury Hospitality Summer Program and English language program. All programs use English as a medium of instruction.

St. Augustine College is a private college in Chicago, Illinois. It was the first bilingual institution of higher education in Illinois. Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts- Scottsdale formerly Scottsdale Culinary Institute (SCI) was a career-focused school in Arizona specializing in culinary and hospitality education. Elizabeth Sherman Leite started Scottsdale Culinary Institute in 1986. The college is owned by Career Education Corporation under a licensing agreement with Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. The institute was located in a former country club on a golf course and lakefront overlooking Camelback Mountain. It closed in 2017.

Center for Culinary Arts, Manila (CCA) is an institution which provides culinary education in the Philippines. CCA, Manila was formally established in 1996 and is currently located in Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City, Philippines. CCA, Manila has satellite campuses in Farmers Market, Cubao; a Restaurant School at SM Mall of Asia called Oceana and at Eastwood Mall called CCA Kitchen. CCA offers diploma and certificate programs accredited by the accrediting commission of the American Culinary Federation. Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts is a culinary school with campuses in Boulder, Colorado, Austin, Texas and online. The school offers culinary arts, pastry arts, and plant-based programs. It is named after Auguste Escoffier, the renowned French chef who is hailed as the father of modern haute cuisine, and owned by Triumph Higher Education group.
