Kenny Haynes is an American former basketball player. He played college basketball for the Lamar Cardinals as a three-year starter from 1967 to 1970 and is considered one of the team's great defensive players. [1] [2] Haynes led the Cardinals to the Southland Conference championship and was selected as the Southland Player of the Year in 1970. [1] He was named to the All-Southland Second Team in 1970. [3]

Haynes attended Dixon High School in Dixon, Illinois, and graduated in 1966. [4]

Haynes was inducted into the Cardinal Hall of Honor in 2000. [1]

The Lamar Cardinals and Lady Cardinals refers to the college athletics teams of Lamar University, in Beaumont, Texas. The Cardinals and Lady Cardinals teams will compete in seventeen NCAA Division I sports as a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) after officially joining the conference on July 1, 2021.

The Lamar Cardinals basketball team represents Lamar University in NCAA Division I men's basketball competition. The Cardinals are one of four programs, all from Texas, that will leave the Southland Conference on July 1, 2021 to join the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). Lamar is leaving the Southland Conference for the second time, having initially joined at the league's formation in 1963, left in 1987, and returned in 1999. The Cardinals have played home games in the Montagne Center since 1984. The Lamar University basketball team is one of the school's most storied athletic programs. The Cardinals have competed in NCAA Tournament play eleven times (five at the NCAA College Division level and six times at the NCAA Division I level with the most recent appearance in the 2012 tournament. The 1979–80 team was one of the 1980 tournament's Sweet Sixteen teams. The Cardinals have also competed in four NIT tournaments. Heading into the 2014–2015 season Lamar had a 284–143 record in the Montagne Center. The Cardinals overall record going into the 2014–2015 season was 922–818.

Michael Perry James is an American professional basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He's also best known for being the first player in NBA history to go from a two-way contract to a regular contract, all while never being sent down to the NBA G League in the process.

The 1971 season marked the first year the Cardinals competed as the Lamar University Cardinals following the school's name change from Lamar State College of Technology to Lamar University on August 23, 1971. The Cardinals finished the season with a 5–6 overall record and a 4–1 conference record. The 4–1 conference record was good enough for the Cardinals to tie for the conference championship. The team ended the season in a three-way tie for first place in conference play. The Cardinals shared the conference title with new member, Louisiana Tech, and departing member, Trinity.

The 2018 Lamar Cardinals football team represented Lamar University in the 2018 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Cardinals were led by second-year head coach Mike Schultz and played their home games at Provost Umphrey Stadium. They played as a member of the Southland Conference. They finished the season 7–5, 6–3 in Southland play to finish in third place. They received an at-large berth to the FCS Playoffs, where they lost in the first round to Northern Iowa.

The Lamar Cardinals tennis team is the men's team representing Lamar University in the sport of tennis. The team started competition at the four year college level in 1952. The Cardinals compete in NCAA Division I's Southland Conference. Home matches are at the 16 court on campus Thompson Family Tennis Center in Beaumont, Texas. Scott Shankles has been the Cardinals' head coach since the 2010-11 season.
