Henry Ray is an American former professional basketball player and coach. He played college basketball for the McNeese State Cowboys from 1972 to 1975 and is considered one of the program's best players. [1]

Ray is a native of Alexandria, Louisiana. [1] He began his basketball career at Peabody High School, an all-black school. [2] Ray was forced to transfer after his sophomore season to Bolton High School when it was racially integrated and new zoning rules were implemented. [2]

Ray was a standout on the Cowboys team that won the Southland Conference championship during the 1974–75 season. [3] Ray was selected as the Southland Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year in 1975. [1] His 1,902 points and 883 rebounds both rank fifth in program history. [1]

Ray played several seasons of professional basketball. [1] He served as an assistant coach at Lafayette High School from 1982 to 1990, and Bryan Station High School from 1990 to 1997. [4] Ray was an assistant coach for the Transylvania Pioneers women's basketball team for sixteen seasons. [4]

Ray was inducted into the McNeese Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. [1] He was named to the Southland Conference 1970s All-Decade Men's Basketball Team in 2013. [5]

George "Tic" Price is an American college basketball coach. He last coached the Lamar Cardinals men's basketball team. From 2002 to 2007, he served as head coach at McNeese State. Prior to that, he served as head coach of Memphis and New Orleans. Price's daughter is Sports Illustrated model Chanel Iman, who married NFL wide receiver Sterling Shepard in 2017. He is married to the former Jamie Lynn Simms, and the couple has two children - son, Ryan, a college basketball coach who played for his father at McNeese, and daughter, Chanel. He has three granddaughters - Bella Grace Price, Cali Clay Shepard and Cassie Snow Shepard.

The McNeese Cowboys and Cowgirls are composed of 14 teams representing McNeese State University in intercollegiate athletics, including men's and women's basketball, cross country, golf, and track and field. The McNeese Cowboys football program is the intercollegiate American football team for McNeese State University located in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The team competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and are members of the Southland Conference. McNeese's first football team was fielded in 1940. The team plays its home games at the 17,410 seat Cowboy Stadium in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

The Lamar Cardinals basketball team represents Lamar University in NCAA Division I men's basketball competition. The Cardinals currently play in the Southland Conference following a return from the Western Athletic Conference on July 11, 2022. They were one of four programs, all from Texas, that left the Southland Conference on July 1, 2021, to join the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). Lamar left the Southland Conference for the second time, having initially joined at the league's formation in 1963, left in 1987, and returned in 1999. After one season in the WAC, Lamar returned to the Southland Conference. The Cardinals have played home games in the Montagne Center since 1984. The Lamar University basketball team is one of the school's most storied athletic programs. The Cardinals have competed in NCAA Tournament play eleven times and six times at the NCAA Division I level with the most recent appearance in the 2012 tournament. The 1979–80 team was one of the 1980 tournament's Sweet Sixteen teams. The Cardinals have also competed in four NIT tournaments. Heading into the 2014–2015 season Lamar had a 284–143 record in the Montagne Center. The Cardinals overall record going into the 2014–2015 season was 922–818.
