Personal life

Khushali Kumar was born in a Hindu Punjabi family to Gulshan Kumar and mother Sudesh Kumari Dua. [1]

Career

Khushali made her music video debut with a song sung by sister Tulsi Kumar as a tribute to her late father Gulshan Kumar. [6]

In 2018, she acted in a few short films, among which the film Jeena Mushkil Hai Yaar previewed the Film Makers Session at the Film Festival of Life, Pinewood Studios UK and at the 9th Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival and Dadasaheb Phalke Festival. [7] She has also won the Critics' Choice Award at the Druck International Film Festival for her performance in the Hindi feature film Jeena Mushkil Hai Yaar. [8] [9] [10]

Kumar was set to be launched by her brother Bhushan Kumar, head of T-Series in the comedy film Dahi Cheeni in July 2019. R Madhavan was roped in to play the male lead. The film was to be helmed by debutant Ashween Neal Mani and was to focus on a true event that speaks about the problems faced by different societies in the world. However, the final script of the film did not turn out the way the makers had envisioned. Hence, T-Series has put the film on hold and decided to launch Khushali in a different film with the same cast but different direction team. [11] As a result, Kumar started her acting career along with Madhavan in 2022 film Dhokha: Round D Corner , [12] for which she won the Star Debut of the Year – Female award at the 23rd ceremony of India's IIFA Awards. [13]

Then, she appeared in the lead role in the 2023 film Starfish . [14] For Kumar, the shooting of the film was very challenging. She said, "It was so freezing cold that everyone was wearing jackets while I was in a dress, ready to jump in the water". [15]

In 2024, Kumar appeared in the lead role in Pulkit's film, Dedh Bigha Zameen which was released on JioCinema. [16]

Kumar's upcoming projects are Hide, Crossfire and Dil Katiya. [17]
