Kid Chan (born 15 January 1978) is a Malaysian wedding photojournalist and [3] portrait photographer. [4] [5] [6]
Born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, Chan attended the Sri Cempaka school before pursuing a degree in international business from the Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia. [4]
He began working as an executive assistant before taking up photography as his exclusive job. After two years, Chan left to take up an apprenticeship at a photography studio. [7] [8]
In 2000, he took over Portrait One, a company he renamed "Kid Chan Studio". [7] Initially, Chan concentrated on corporate photography and photographed the weddings of his clients' children. [3] He has since photographed royalty, politicians, artists, celebrities, [4] and the weddings of Asian celebrities. [3] He was the official photographer for the wedding of Tengku Aslahuddin Jaa'far and Sofia Erica Lane and was featured on the cover of Harper's Bazaar . [9]
In 2010, his photo collection of three cancer survivors and their families was exhibited in 50 Courts Malaysia's stores nationwide as part of an exhibition to raise funds for the National Cancer Society of Malaysia. [10] In the same year, he photographed the shooting of Britain's Next Top Model Cycle 6 in episode 11 in Kuala Lumpur. In 2013, Chan published the book Kid Chan's Guide to the Business of Photography, which covers setting up a photography business from a Malaysian perspective. [14]
Chan was named by Malaysian Tatler as "one of the 100 people you must know in Asia" in 2006. [15] In the same year, Le Prestige magazine named him in their "Top 40 under 40" list. [16] In 2008, Tiger Tales, the official magazine of Tiger Airways, mentioned him in their "annual list of trail-blazers across Asia and Australia". [17] In 2012, he was listed in UK magazine Brides 's "Top 20 Extremely Talented Destination Wedding Photographers in the World". [18]

Francis Chan was a Singaporean bishop of the Catholic Church. After finishing high school in Singapore, he studied for the priesthood at College General in Penang and was ordained a priest in 1939. Chan first served as an assistant pastor in Ipoh until 1946, with a three year interruption due to World War II. He subsequently returned to his hometown after the Japanese occupation ended and served as parish priest there for nine years. When the Holy See created the first two Malaysian dioceses of Kuala Lumpur and Penang in 1955, Chan was appointed as bishop of the latter see. He was consecrated in August of that same year, becoming one of the first two local bishops from Malaysia. A Council Father of the Second Vatican Council, Chan attended two sessions held at St. Peter's Basilica in 1962 and 1964. He died of terminal cancer in 1967. Chan was dubbed "The Singing Bishop" due to his penchant for music.
