Kim Jong-su (born 9 April 1970) is a North Korean long-distance runner. He competed in the men's marathon at the 1996 Summer Olympics. [1]

Kim finished 2nd at the 1995 Pyongyang Marathon in 2:12:40, 18 seconds behind Kim Jung-won. [2] He again finished runner-up at the same race in March 1996, running his personal best of 2:11:43 less than one minute behind Jung-won again. [3] In August that year, Kim finished 40th in the 1996 Olympic marathon, only 25 seconds behind Jung-won. [4]

Kim returned in 1997 to compete in the Beijing Marathon. [5] He finished 6th in 2:14:49 as the 2nd Korean behind Jung-won again. [6]

Izumi Maki was a Japanese long-distance runner who competed in the marathon. She represented her native country twice at the Summer Olympics: in 1992 and 1996. She competed for the Wacoal corporate team during her career.

Sarah Louise Rowell is a British former long-distance runner. Born in Hostert, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, she ran 2:39:11 at the age of 20 at the 1983 London Marathon. Later that year she won the gold medal in the women's marathon at the 1983 Universiade in Edmonton. At the 1984 London marathon she improved her best to 2:31:28 to qualify for the British team for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. In the inaugural women's Olympic marathon, she finished 14th. She broke the British record when running her personal best for the marathon with 2:28:06, when finishing second behind Ingrid Kristiansen at the 1985 London Marathon.

Albert Richard "Whitey" Michelsen was an American long-distance runner who is recognized as having set a world's best in the marathon on October 12, 1925, with a time of 2:29:01 at the inaugural Port Chester Marathon in Port Chester, New York. According to the International Association of Athletics Federations, Michelsen held this record until Fusashige Suzuki posted a 2:27:49 performance in Tokyo, Japan on March 31, 1935.
