The King Faisal Mosque (Arabic : مَسْجِد ٱلْمَلِك فَيْصَل, romanized: Masjid Al-Malik Fayṣal) is a mosque in Sharjah, the United Arab Emirates. [4] [5] [6] It is named after the former ruler of Saudi Arabia King Faisal of Saudi Arabia.
Construction of the mosque started in 1984, [2] and it was completed and opened to the public on Friday the 23rd of January, [1] [3] 1987. [4] Named after King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, it had been the largest in the Emirate of Sharjah [2] and country. [1] [3] Currently, the Sharjah Mosque in the area of Tay [7] is the largest mosque in the Emirate, [8] [9] and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the largest in the nation. [2]
The mosque is located on King Faisal Road and Al Arouba Street in the central part of Sharjah, near the headquarters of Dubai Islamic Bank in Sharjah, Al Ittihad (Union) Park, the Central Bus Station and Al Jubail Souq. [1] [2] [3]
The mosque has 2 minarets which measure 70 m (230 ft), [1] an area of 10,000–12,000 m2 (110,000–130,000 sq ft), [3] and a capacity of 16,670 worshippers, [1] of which 12,000 can be seated. The mosque has functions even apart from hosting male and female worshippers. The second floor is occupied by Sharjah's Department of Islamic Affairs and Awqaf, including a general library and offices, adding the library having approximately 7,000 books on Islamic thought and history, modern books on Islamic Sharia and ahadith , in addition to cultural, literary and scientific works. The ground and first floors are for men to pray in, and the basement for women. Near the women's prayer hall is a big place where people may donate clothes for the needy, under the supervision of Sharjah International Charitable Organisation, which also has offices in the building. E 11 is a highway in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Mosque, also known as Al Ain Grand Mosque, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Grand Mosque, or simply the Sheikh Khalifa Mosque, is the largest mosque in the city of Al Ain in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and one of the largest mosques in the United Arab Emirates. The Buraimi dispute, also known as the Buraimi war, was a series of covert attempts by Saudi Arabia to influence the loyalties of tribes and communities in and around the oil-rich Buraimi oasis in the 1940s and 1950s, which culminated in an armed conflict between forces and tribes loyal to Saudi Arabia, on one side, and Oman and the Trucial States, on the other, which broke out as the result of a territorial dispute over the town of Al-Buraimi in Oman, and parts of what is now the city of Al Ain in the Eastern Region of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It amounted to an attempted Saudi invasion of the Buraimi Oasis. Its roots lay in the partitioning of tribal areas and communities which took place in the Trucial States when oil companies were seeking concessions to explore the interior.

Sheikh Faisal bin Sultan Al Qassimi is a member of the royal house of Al Qasimi who rule the Emirates of Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah. He was the first Under Secretary of the Ministry of Defence and chief of staff in Abu Dhabi. Today, Sheikh Faisal is a chairman of the board of directors of a number of private companies including Faisal Holding LLC, GIBCA, Grand Stores, Hospitality Management Holdings LLC, and United Arab Bank. He has several companies and affiliates in key industrial sectors such as real estate, hospitality, tourism, trading, marketing, energy and resources, security printing and private equity.
Abdullah bin Salem bin Theban (2021–1945), a popular Emirati poet, he was born in Sharjah and grew up an orphan and he started organizing poetry at the age of 16. He worked in the media and joined the armed forces of the United Arab Emirates, he also participated in the preparation of radio and television programs. He is also one of the most prominent poets in the UAE in the 20thcentury. He died in Dubai at the age of 76.
