Kohhran Thianghlim (The Holy Church) is a Christian denomination in Mizoram, northeast India. It was founded by Dr L.B. Sailo (Lalbiakmawia Sailo) in 1984. [1] The founder is a certified veterinary doctor working as the Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, Government of Mizoram. [2] It is headquartered in Aizawl at Chawlhhmun, where its Solomon's Temple is located. It is administered by the Executive Committee, which has subordinate boards to manage sectional activities. It is spread all over Mizoram with seven administrative divisions. It uses David's star as insignia on its flag, emblem and Temple.

Aizawl is the general headquarters of the church and a seat of Executive Committee that is the highest body in spiritual and administrative matters. It is portrayed as spiritual Jerusalem for the elects (members of the church). [3]

Midnight Herald

The church publishes its bulletin Midnight Herald (Zanlai Au Aw). It is an evangelical fortnightly published in Mizo since 20 September 1998. It was registered on 21 June 2011 with the Registrar of Newspaper in India, RNI regn. No. MIZMIZ/2009/37924. [4]

Phileo

It is the church official bulletin circulated weekly within the church domain. The publication was started on 1992.[ citation needed ]

Solomon’s Temple

The church is constructing Solomon's Temple, Aizawl Mizoram, India at Kidron Valley, Chawlhhmun. Construction began on 11 January 1995, foundation stone laid on 23 December 1996 and works are taken up by Building Advisory Board. For its afforestation of Temple premise, the church was awarded Green Mizoram outstanding performance by the Government of Mizoram in 1999 and 2000. An annual convention named Jerusalem Khawmpui is held every year at the Temple in the last week of December.' [5] Elects from different places gather for worshiping the Almighty God and as pilgrimage.

Missionary

The church sends missionaries to different parts of Mizoram. The first batch of missionaries were officially anointed in 1995. They also act as officials/ministers during church official functions and sometimes as a shepherd for the members.

Secretariat

It is located in Chawlhhmun, Aizawl. [6] Superintendent is the head of administration and is the drawing and disbursing officer as well. All other functionaries like cashier, clerk, assistant, etc. work under his supervision. Church offset press runs in the same building. It is the headquarters of the Church's administration.

The official flag of the church is divided diagonally from the lower hoist corner to upper fly corner by a broad black band bearing seven white David's stars; the black band is edged in red stripe at the upper portion, blue stripe at the lower portion; the upper hoist-side triangle is sky-blue with a white cross imposed on it; the lower triangle is red.

Mizoram State in northeastern India

Mizoram is a state in northeastern India, with Aizawl as its seat of government and capital city. The name of the state is derived from "Mizo", the self described name of the native inhabitants, and "Ram", which in the Mizo language means "land." Thus "Mizo-ram" means "land of the Mizos". Founded in 1958 as Aijal College, it is the oldest and largest college in Mizoram, by enrolment and campus size. It started with intermediate of arts courses, and later expanded to bachelor's degrees in arts, commerce and science. With the opening of master's degree courses in Mizo, philosophy and life sciences, it became the first postgraduate college in Mizoram.

Mizoram Presbyterian ChurchSynod is the largest Christian denomination in Mizoram, northeast India. It was a direct progeny of the Calvinistic Methodist Church in Wales. It was the first church in Mizoram and is now one of the constituent bodies of a larger denomination Presbyterian Church of India (PCI), which has its headquarters in Shillong, Meghalaya. The administrative body called the Mizoram Synod has its headquarters at Mission Veng, Aizawl. As the first church, it remains the largest denomination in Mizoram.

Ṭhenphunga Sailo was a Brigadier of the Indian Army, and the second and twice the Chief Minister of Mizoram, a state in northeast India. He was the creator of Mizoram People's Conference, one of the major political parties in Mizoram. He was a recipient of Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and Padma Shri for his humanitarian works during his military service, and Mizo Award for his lifetime achievements.

<i>Vanglaini</i>

Vanglaini is a daily newspaper in Mizoram, northeast India, published in Mizo language. It is registered with the Registrar of Newspapers for India. It is owned, edited, and published by K. Sapdanga. It remains the newspaper in Mizoram with the largest circulation.

Mizo literature is the literature written in Mizo ṭawng, the principal language of the Mizo peoples, which has both written and oral traditions. It has undergone a considerable change in the 20th century. The language developed mainly from the Lushai language, with significant influence from Pawi language, Paite language and Hmar language, especially at the literary level. All Mizo languages such as Pawi language, Paite language etc. remained unwritten until the beginning of the twentieth century. However, there was unwritten secular literature in the form of folktales, war chants etc. passed down from one generation to another. And there was rich religious literature in the form of sacerdotal chants. These are the chants used by the two types of priests, namely Bawlpu and Sadâwt. This article is about the written literature.

William Williams was a Welsh Presbyterian missionary to Khasi Hills, northeast India, in the late 19th century. He was a son of a ship captain in Nanternis, a small village in Wales. Following his father's footstep he became a sailor for five years. Then he took a profession in carpentry for two years. After graduating in theology from East London Missionary Training Institute he became a pastor. Pursuing his ambition he became a missionary of the Welsh Calvinistic Methodist Foreign Mission to Khasi people in India from 1887 until his death. He died of typhoid in 1892.

Zairema was a Presbyterian minister, and a pioneer in theology and literature among the Mizo people of northeast India. He was the first Mizo to obtain the degrees of BSc and BD. He died of cardiac problem on the morning of 17 December 2008 at his residence in Aizawl at the age of 91. He is best remembered as the "father of Mizoram Synod".

Solomons Temple, Aizawl

Solomon's Temple is a temple constructed by Kohhran Thianghlim located in Aizawl Mizoram, India. It is regarded as 'The Holy Church'. The church was founded by Dr. L.B. Sailo in 1984.

History of Christianity in Mizoram Christianity in Mizoram

The history of Christianity in Mizoram covers the origin and development of all forms of Christianity in Mizoram since the British occupation at the end of the 19th century. Christianity arrived as a consequence of tribal warfare, raids of British plantations, and the ensuing punitive British military expedition called the Lushai Expedition of 1871. The subsequent annexation of the erstwhile Lushai Hills to the British Empire opened the gateway for British Christian missions to evangelise the Mizo people.

Sângthankima is a humanitarian and social worker in Mizoram, India. He is the founder of Thutak Nunpuitu Team (TNT), a voluntary organisation, which runs the largest charitable institution in Mizoram. His institution, a registered society since 1991 under the Firms and Societies in India, started as a rehabilitation society for alcoholics in Champhai town. With donation of a plot of land in Aizawl city, it expanded into an orphanage with formal school, health centre, and sanatorium. In addition to more than a dozen of awards for his social service, Sangthankima has received an honorary doctorate (D.H.L.) from Rangoon's Methodist Bible College in 2008, Achievers Award 2013 For NGO, Mother Teresa Awards for Social Justice in 2014, and the Mizo Award of 2014.

Tourism in Mizoram State in Northeast India, India

Mizoram is a state in the northeast of India. Mizoram is considered by many as a beautiful place due to its dramatic landscape and pleasant climate. There have been many attempts to increase revenue through tourism but many potential tourists find the lack of amenities to be a hurdle. However, the State continues to promote itself and many projects have been initiated. The tourism ministry continues to maintain or upgrade its tourist lodges throughout the state. Foreign tourists are required to obtain an 'inner line permit' under the special permit before visiting. The permit can be obtained from Indian missions abroad for a limited number of days or direct from Mizoram Government authorities within India. The state is rich in bird diversity, which has the potentiality to make it a major birding destination. For Mrs Hume's pheasant, Mizoram is a stronghold. There is also a rare record of the wild water buffalo from the state. There are several past records of the Sumatran rhinoceros from Mizoram, then Lushai Hills. The small population of wild elephants can be seen in Ngengpui and Dampa Sanctuaries. Some of the interesting sites are Mizo Poets' Square also known as Mizo Hlakungpui Mual in Mizo, the Great Megaliths locally known as 'Kawtchhuah Ropui'.

Laltluangliana Khiangte Mizo academic, playwright and poet

Laltluangliana Khiangte is a Mizo academic, playwright and poet of Mizo literature. He was the principal of the Serampore College and a former professor at Pachhunga University College and the North Eastern Hill University. He is presently serving as the senior most professor at the Department of Mizo at Mizoram University. He is a recipient of the Pu Buanga Award, the highest literary award of the Mizo Academy of Letters. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2006, for his contributions to Indian literature.

Lalthangfala Sailo is an Indian educationist, short story writer, playwright and a former president of the Mizo Academy of Letters. He is a former deputy registrar at the Mizoram campus of the North Eastern Hill University.

Phullen is a town in Saitual district, in the Indian state of Mizoram. As per the Constitution of India and Panchayati Raj Act, Phullen is administrated by a Village Council who are the elected representatives of the village. It is located 125 kilometres (78 mi) east of the district headquarters Aizawl, which is also the capital of Mizoram. Phullen is a Block headquarters of Phullen Block, which is bounded by Darlawn Block towards west, Ngopa Block towards East, Thingsulthliah Block toward south, and Aizawl district in the north.

Rokunga was a traditional writer and composer from Mizoram, India.

Michael Malsawmzela Sailo, also known as Ace Man, was a rap singer from Mizoram, India. He introduced rap music in Mizoram.

Aizawl Capital of Mizoram in India

Aizawl is the capital of the state of Mizoram in India. Aizawl was officially established on 25 February 1890. With a population of 293,416, it is the largest city in the state. It is also the centre of administration containing all the important government offices, state assembly house and civil secretariat. The population of Aizawl strongly reflects the different communities of the ethnic Mizo people.

Mizo Conference of Seventh day Adventist

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Mizoram is formally organised as the Mizo Conference of Seventh day Adventist. It is one of the conferences of the Northeast India Union of Seventh-day Adventists under the Southern Asia Division of Seventh-day Adventists. It currently has 81 Churches and 22,446 members.
