Komal J. Sharma is an Indian actress, model and former squash player. [1] She is known for starring in Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea . [2]

Early life

Komal Sharma was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India to parents from northern India. She is the youngest of four siblings. She graduated with a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) from Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Arts and Science College for Women, Chennai.

Career

Squash

Komal got interested in squash from her school days. She joined the Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) and won several junior and senior National squash championships. She represented Tamil Nadu several times in national level tournaments and won the medals.

Modelling

She has twice been crowned as Miss Tamil Nadu in two different events and worked as a commercial model before enetering into films.[ citation needed ]

Acting career

In 2013, she was offered a role in S. A. Chandrasekhar's Sattapadi Kutram . [3] Before its release, she completed Oothari, directed by Shakti Krishna. [4] After the release of her debut film Sattapadi Kutram, she taken the films seriously and carefully chosen the roles. [5] Komal acted in Nagaraja Cholan MA, MLA , the sequel to Amaidhi Padai directed by Manivannan. [6]

Sharma played the title role in Telugu film Anu , directed and produced by Sunil Kumar. It was Komal's Telugu debut. Later she appeared in the Tamil film Vaigai Express directed by director Shaji Kailash. Natrinai is a Tamil movie directed and produced by director Gautham Elangovan.

She debuted in Malayalam films with Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea , directed by director Priyadarshan. In Marakkar she is paired opposite actor Arjun Sarja. Her second Malayalam film Ittymaani: Made in China released before Marakkar and was commercially successful.

Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea is a 2021 Indian Malayalam-language epic historical action film directed by Priyadarshan. Set in the 16th century Calicut, the film is based on the fourth Kunjali Marakkar named Muhammad Ali, the admiral of the fleet of the Zamorin. Priyadarshan scripted the film with Ani Sasi. The film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor's Aashirvad Cinemas. Marakkar features Mohanlal in the titlular role, with ensemble cast including Arjun Sarja, Suniel Shetty, Ashok Selvan, Prabhu, Nedumudi Venu, Mukesh, Siddique, Manju Warrier, Keerthy Suresh, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Suhasini Maniratnam, Innocent, Mamukkoya, Hareesh Peradi, Santhosh Keezhattoor and K. Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea is the soundtrack to the 2021 Indian period drama action film of the same name directed by Priyadarshan. The film features five songs composed by Ronnie Raphael, whilst the original score is composed by Rahul Raj, Ankit Suri and Lyell Evans Roeder. The album features lyrics written by Prabha Varma, B. K. Harinarayanan, Shafi Kollam for the Malayalam version, and Priyadarshan, R. P. Bala, Samji for the Tamil version, whereas the lyricists for the dubbed versions are: Vennelakanti (Telugu), Aniruddha Sastry, Vybhav M (Kannada), Nawab Arzoo and Ishtiaq Feroz (Hindi). The album released through Saina Music on 1 August 2021.
