Konrad Laimer (born 27 May 1997) is an Austrian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder and right-back for Bundesliga club Bayern Munich and the Austria national team. [2] He previously played for Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig.
A youth product of Red Bull Salzburg, Laimer made his Erste Liga debut with the reserve team and breeder club FC Liefering on 2 May 2014 against SV Horn. [3] He made his first team debut at 28 September 2014 against Rapid Wien. He replaced Alan in added time. [4]
On 30 June 2017, Laimer moved to Germany and joined RB Leipzig on a four-year deal. [5] Laimer's deal was due to run out in 2021, but he later signed a contract extension until June 2023. [6] He won the DFB-Pokal in 2022 and 2023 with Leipzig. [7] On 3 June 2023, despite their victory in the 2023 DFB-Pokal, Laimer announced his decision to depart from RB Leipzig. [8]
On 9 June 2023, Bayern Munich announced that they had signed Laimer on a free transfer until 30 June 2027. [9] [10]
On 8 August 2023, Laimer changed his number in Bayern Munich from 24 to his favorite number 27 as the number's previous owner Yann Sommer left the club. [11] On 26 September, he scored his first goal in a 4–0 away win over Preußen Münster in the DFB-Pokal. [12]
In September 2017, Laimer received his first call-up to the Austrian senior squad for 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification matches against Wales and Georgia in September 2017. [13] On 7 June 2019, he debuted as a starter in a UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying against Slovenia. [14]
