The Kosovo-Pomoravlje District is a district of Kosovo and Metohija, part of the Republic of Serbia. The region is called Kosovo Pomoravlje. The area now has a population of 184,864. Before the NATO intervention in the Kosovo War, 20.000 Serbs lived in Gjilan. The seat of the district was in the city of Gjilan. Along with the rest of Kosovo, it was transferred to UN administration. In 2000 the UN administration renamed the district the District of Gjilan as part of a series of reforms, which were rejected by Serbia.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Camp Monteith</span>

Camp Monteith is a Kosovo Security Force base in Gjilan, Kosovo, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Camp Bondsteel. A former Serb artillery outpost and 79 parcels of private land, the area was taken over by U.S. Marines and used as a base of operation during the Kosovo War of 1999. The camp was named after Jimmie W. Monteith, who received the Medal of Honor for heroism in France during World War II. At its peak, the camp housed 2000 soldiers and civilian contractors. Established in June 1999 to be used as a staging point for the bulk of US forces stationed in the Multi National Brigade-East. Initially occupied by U.S. Marines, over the past seven years successive rotations of U.S. Army forces have used the camp as part of NATO’s KFOR.

Kosovo Pomoravlje, or Anamorava, is a valley in Kosovo, in the southern part of the District of Gjilan surrounding the Binačka Morava River. It stretches eastward to the Preševo Valley in southern Serbia. The mountains in this region, rising to an altitude of 1,000–1,200 metres (3,300–3,900 ft), border the Skopska Crna Gora region in north of Skopje. Gjilan, Kamenica, Novo Brdo and Viti are municipalities located in the region. The region gave its name to Kosovo-Pomoravlje District, which largely corresponds to its successor District of Gjilan in Kosovo. It is known for recording the lowest temperature in Kosovo: −32.5 °C (−26.5 °F), on 25 January 1963.

Kmetoc is a village about 7 km northeast of Gjilan, Kosovo. It is in a hilly area that divides the neighborhoods starkly.
