Tulu is a Dravidian language whose speakers are concentrated in Dakshina Kannada and in the southern part of Udupi of Karnataka in south-western India and also in the northern parts of the Kasaragod district of Kerala. The native speakers of Tulu are referred to as Tuluva or Tulu people and the geographical area is unofficially called Tulu Nadu.

Nirel (transl. Shadow) is a Tulu-language film directed by Ranjith Bajpe and produced jointly by Shodhan Prasad and San Poojary, starring Anoop Sagar, Varuna Shetty, Deepthi, Sachin Padil, Deepak Paladka. This will be the first film produced overseas and shot completely in Gulf Region. The film is based on the Kannada Script "Nadu Naduve" by Karthik Gowda and later converted to Tulu by Ranjith Bajpe. Karthik Gowda also wrote the screenplay for the movie, and dialogues written by Ranjith Bajpe. Cast for the movie was totally selected by an audition at Fortune Grand Hotel Dubai. The people behind "Nirel" is a group of four friends, San Poojary, Ranjith Bajpe, Rajneesh Amin and Sachin Padil.

Brahmashri Narayana Guru Swamy is a Tulu Language film directed and produced by Rajashekhar Kotian under the banner of Thungabadra Films. Venkatadri has played the lead role of Brahmashri Narayana Guru and Vijaya Raghavendra in a supporting role. The film was released on 2 May 2014 at five theaters across Udupi and Mangalore. The film won the Karnataka State Film Award for Special Film of Social Concern.

Madipu is a 2017 Indian Tulu film directed by Chethan Mundadi. Highlighting the futility of the orthodox traditions practiced in the region of Tulu Nadu, the film focuses on Bhootaradhane, a practice of worshipping and appeasing demigods; Buta Kola; and relations between the Hindus and Muslims in the region. The plot revolves around the trouble with depression the protagonist goes through as he steps out of the said practises that he had previously been observing.
Neha Shetty is an Indian actress and model who primarily appears in Telugu films. Shetty made her debut with the Kannada film Mungaru Male 2 in 2016, and went on to star in Telugu films such as Mehbooba, Gully Rowdy and DJ Tillu.
