The Somali Armed Forces are the military forces of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Headed by the President as Commander in Chief, they are constitutionally mandated to ensure the nation's sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
Mudug is an administrative region (gobol) in north-central Somalia. The population of Mudug is 131,455 as of 2005.
Gedo is an administrative region (gobol) in Jubaland, southern Somalia. Its regional capital is Garbahaarreey. It was created in 1974 and is bordered by the Ogaden in Ethiopia, the North Eastern Province in Kenya, and the Somali regions of Bakool, Bay, Jubbada Dhexe, and Jubbada Hoose further down east. The southern parts of Gedo, west of the Jubba River, used to be part of the old British Trans-Juba region during half of the seventy years of colonial era in Africa from 1890 to 1960. The British and Italians fought twice over this area. The first democratically elected governor of the administrative region was Hussein Farey, who entered office in 2008.
The Oromia Region is a regional state in Ethiopia, the homeland of the Oromo people. It is bordered by the Somali Region to the east; the Amhara Region, the Afar Region and the Benishangul-Gumuz Region to the north; Dire Dawa to the northeast; the South Sudanese state of Upper Nile, Gambela Region, Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region and Sidama Region to the west; the Eastern Province of Kenya to the south; as well as Addis Ababa as an enclave surrounded by Oromia Special Zone Surrounding Finfinne in its center and the Harari Region as an enclave surrounded by East Hararghe in its east. The 2011 census reported the population of Oromia as 35,000,000; this makes it the largest regional state in population. It is also the largest regional state covering 286,612 square kilometers. Oromia is the world's forty-second most populous subnational entity, and the most populous subnational entity in all of Africa.
The Somali Region, officially known as the Somali Regional State/Ogaden, is the second largest and easternmost of the ten regions (Kililoj) of Ethiopia. The state borders the Ethiopian states of Afar and Oromia and the chartered city Dire Dawa to the west, as well as Djibouti to the north; Somalia to the north, northeast and east; and Kenya to the southwest.
The Darod is a Somali clan. The forefather of this clan was Sheikh Abdirahman bin Isma'il al-Jabarti, more commonly known as Darood. In Somalia members of the clan settle in the Federal Member States of Jubbaland and Puntland. In Somaliland they settle the regions of Sool, Sanaag and Cayn. Furthermore, the clan has an ancillary presence in pockets of the states of Koonfur-Galbeed and Galmudug. In Ethiopia the clan settles in the Somali State region, whilst in Kenya they settle in the North Eastern Province.
Hudur is a town in the south Western Bakool region of Somalia. It serves as the province's capital and is the center of the Hudur District.
Awbare, officially known as Teferi Ber, is one of the woredas of the Fafan Zone in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. Awbare is bordered on the southwest by Jijiga, on the west by the Sitti Zone, on the east by Somalia, and on the southeast by Kebri Beyah. Cities and towns in the Awbare district include Awbare, Awbube, Sheder, Lefe Isa, Derwernache, Gogti, Jaare and Heregel.
Jilib is a town in Somalia. It is 112 km south to Kismaayo. Jilib is inhabited by the Hawiye clan, mainly Sheekhaal and minorities including Somali Bantu.

The 2009–present phase of the Somali Civil War is concentrated in southern and central Somalia and portions of north eastern Kenya. The Awdiinle Massacre was a massacre of over thirty Somali civilians carried out by Ethiopian soldiers in Somalia as part of the African Union Mission to Somalia on Sunday July 17, 2016. The massacre occurred in the village of Awdiinle, 30 km west of Baidoa.
