The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) is the governing body of the men's professional tennis circuits – the ATP Tour, the ATP Challenger Tour and the ATP Champions Tour. It was formed in September 1972 by Donald Dell, Jack Kramer, and Cliff Drysdale to protect the interests of professional tennis players, and Drysdale became the first president. The ATP Challenger Tour, known until the end of 2008 as the ATP Challenger Series, is a series of international men's professional tennis tournaments. The ITF World Tennis Tour tournaments are on the entry-level of international professional tennis competition. The ATP Challenger Tour is administered by the Association of Tennis Professionals. Nearly every professional player has spent some time on the ITF Men's World Tennis Tour.

It was the first edition of the tournament and was organized as an event on the 2022 ATP Challenger Tour. It was scheduled to be played between September 26 and October 2, 2022, but the tournament was canceled after completion of play on September 28 due to the forecasted impacts of Hurricane Ian on South Carolina. All players received the ranking points and prize money they would have earned for the rounds they reached.
