La Paternal or Paternal (English: The Paternal) is a neighborhood or district in the centre of Buenos Aires city, Argentina. It was founded in 1904 by a city decree (decreto) and was named 'La Paternal' after the train station in the neighbourhood, a former industrial zone.
La Paternal neighbours the following barrios: Agronomía, Chacarita, Villa Crespo, Villa General Mitre, Villa Santa Rita and Caballito.
Primarily a residential quarter, it has mostly condos and single-family homes, and a shopping district on its main venue, Avenida San Martín.
The barrio is traditionally associated with Argentinos Juniors football team, whose social headquarters is at the northern part of the neighbourhood.

Among the main features of the neighbourhood is the Parque Saavedra, which has large picnic areas and sports facilities. During weekends, many wealthy inhabitants of Buenos Aires pass through Saavedra en route to their larger estates and country clubs. The barrio was named after Cornelio Saavedra, president of the First Governing Board, during the May Revolution of 1810.

Its name translates as Village of the Park and was derived from its earliest beginnings, when several haciendas were all that existed, alongside a growing agricultural park in this section of Buenos Aires Province. Located at the southernmost end of the city, Villa Riachuelo is bordered by the barrios of Villa Lugano to the north and Villa Soldati to the northeast, the Buenos Aires Province localities of Villa Fiorito and Lanús Oeste to the southeast and Ciudad Madero to the southwest.
