La Scuola International School ("La Scuola") is an independent, non-profit, co-educational PreK-8th grade day school located in San Francisco, CA. La Scuola offers dual immersion in English and Italian, practices the Reggio Emilia learning philosophy, and follows a curriculum based on the IB's Primary Years Programme. La Scuola is accredited by the International Baccalaureate, [3] Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), [4] National Association of Independent Schools, [5] and the California Association of Independent Schools. [2]
La Scuola was established in 2002 as the playgroup La Piccola Scuola or "The Little Italian School" with the initial goal of helping the founders' children learn Italian. Since its inception, La Piccola Scuola has evolved into a recreational program requiring its own space and then a fully licensed preschool. In 2010, La Scuola opened its PK campus on 20th Street in the Dogpatch, and two years later it expanded from a preschool program to K-8. [6] In 2014, La Scuola opened its second campus at 735 Fell Street, between Webster and Fillmore in Hayes Valley. [2]
