In Indian cinema, an item number or special song is a musical number inserted into a film that may or may not have any relevance to the plot. The term is commonly used within Indian films and to a lesser extent within Pakistani films to describe a catchy, upbeat, often provocative dance sequence for a song performed in a movie. The main aim of an item number is to entertain movie-goers and to lend support to the marketability of the film by being featured in trailers. They are favoured by filmmakers as they afford the opportunity to pick potential hit songs from the stocks, since they do not add to the continuity of the plot. It is thus a vehicle for commercial success that ensures repeat viewing.

Adutha Varisu is a 1983 Indian Tamil-language action drama film directed by S. P. Muthuraman, starring Rajinikanth and Sridevi. It is a remake of the 1972 Hindi film Raja Jani, which itself was loosely based on the 1956 American film Anastasia. The film was released on 7 July 1983.

The Dirty Picture is a 2011 Indian Hindi-language biographical musical drama film inspired by the life of Silk Smitha, an Indian actress noted for her erotic roles. The filmmakers have clarified that the story is not officially or literally based on Smitha alone, but on many of her contemporaries such as Disco Shanti. It also resembles the personal lives of other women in popular culture, including actress and sex symbol Marilyn Monroe. The film was directed by Milan Luthria and co-produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor, after Ekta came up with the idea and asked screenwriter Rajat Aroraa to pen a story based on it.

Tarzan Ki Beti is an action adventure film of Bollywood directed by B. Pratap Singh and produced by Iqbal Singh Sehra. This movie was released in 2002 under the banner of Kusum Art International as a sequel of the Adventures of Tarzan. Hemant Birje portrayed Tarzan in both the films.
Jamuna Tudu is an Indian environmental activist. She and five other women prevented illegal felling of trees near her village and this later expanded into an organisation. She is called ‘Lady Tarzan’ for taking on the Timber mafias and Naxals in Jharkhand.
