The Lampisch LS-16 was a Hungarian training glider of mixed construction. It was flown but not granted a Certificate of Airworthiness.
In 1939 Árpád Lampich designed a single-seat club trainer constructed from wood, steel sheet and steel tubes. Its wing, which was mounted on top of the fuselage, was rectangular in plan out to angled, blunted tips and built around a wooden I-beam spar at about 25% of the chord, assisted by an auxiliary spar near the trailing edge. The latter was a steel cylinder for about half the span, extended outboard with steel pates on which the constant-chord ailerons were mounted. The ribs were wooden ahead of the main spar but light alloy plate behind. The wing was internally braced with diagonal steel tubes and fabric-covered. Externally, it was braced on each side with a steel tube strut from the lower fuselage longeron to the main spar at about 40% span. [1] [2]
The fuselage was a steel tube structure which from the wing rearwards had four longerons forming a parallelogram section, deeper than wide. There was additional cross-bracing under the wing and a low, shelf-like forward projection to carry the wooden-framed open cockpit, placed just ahead of the wing leading edge, and the nose. A rubber-spring landing skid ran from the nose to just aft of the wing strut attachment point. Aft, the fuselage tapered to a conventional tail with a blunted rectangular horizontal tail on its top. Its fin was small and hinged a flat-topped, quadrilateral rudder that reached down to the keel and worked in a cut-out between the elevators. The fabric-covered tail was constructed from steel tubes and light alloy plates. Below it there was a faired, sprung tail skid. [1] [2]
The LS-16 first flew in 1939 but it failed to receive a Certificate of Airworthiness, its structure being judged too weak and too flexible. [1]

The Penrose Pegasus was a 1930s high-wing, single-seat, wooden glider from the UK. Designed, built and flown by Harald Penrose until the start of World War II, only one was built at the time though a reproduction was constructed in the 1990s.
The CAT 15 was a single-seat primary glider built in Italy just before the Second World War. Only one was constructed.
The RRG Falke of 1930 was a secondary training glider designed by Alexander Lippisch in Germany and intended to provide better performance than his earlier RRG Prüfling whilst being easier to fly because of its inherent stability. It was sold as plans for both club and commercial production and was built in Germany and abroad.
The Schneider Grunau 8 was a simple, two-seat trainer glider designed and built in Germany in the early 1930s.
The F.V.D. Stehaufchen or Der Dresdener Stehaufchen, later relabelled the Akaflieg Dresden D-B1 Stehaufchen, was an unequal span biplane glider designed and built in Germany in 1921. It flew with some success at the second and third Rhön competitions on the Wasserkuppe and was also used to train pilots.
The Lioré et Olivier LeO 8, Lioré et Olivier LeO 8-Cau 2 or Lioré et Olivier LeO 8 CAN 2 was a French two seat, parasol wing monoplane night fighter and reconnaissance aircraft, built in 1923.
The Grzmilas Orkan II was a Polish one-off, single-seat sports aircraft. It came second in the second National Lightplane Contest held soon after its first flight, with outstanding take-off and climb characteristics. Its designer and builder continued to use it until 1939.
The Wallis S.1, sometimes known as Walis S-1 or Wallisa S-I, was a Polish glider designed to compete in the Second Polish Glider Contest, held in 1925 where it won two prizes.
The Czajka or Kocjan Czajka after its designer was a Polish secondary training glider which was in continuous production from 1931 to the start of World War II. More than 160 were completed in Warsztaty Szybowcowe in Warsaw.
The Jaworski WJ 3 was a Polish, low cost primary glider first flown in 1936. It did not prove popular and only one was built.
The MSrE M-20 was an Hungarian primary glider with a better performance than the first generation of such aircraft. One of its designers was Ernő Rubik and the MSrE M-20 was his first major contribution. Only one was built.
The Rubik R-03 Szittya I was a Hungarian single-seat sailplane flown in the late 1930s. The design was developed through three improving variants. though only one of each was built.
The Rubik R-07a Tücsök {Cicada) and R-07b Vöcsök (Grebe) were two versions of a Hungarian primary trainer, differing most obviously in the pilot's seating. First flown in the late 1930s, about 530 were built, some remaining in service into the 1960s.
The Rubik R-11b Cimbora (Pal) was a Hungarian two seat glider, first flown in 1940 and intended to introduce B-certificated pilots to aero-towing techniques. It proved popular and was also used to train pilots in ridge lift flying and set several national duration records.
The Rubik R-15 Koma (Godfather) was a side-by-side seat Hungarian training glider designed to introduce pilots to winch-launching techniques. A second, very similar but single seat design, the Rubik R-16 Lepke, provided follow-up solo experience of the same techniques. Pairs were widely used by Hungarian glider clubs post-war, with 65 of each produced.
The Rubik R-16 Lepke (Butterfly) was a single seat Hungarian training glider designed to follow the very similar but two seat Rubik R-15 Koma in a winch-launch training programme. The Lepke provided solo experience of the techniques learned with an instructor in an aircraft with similar handling characteristics. That done, the Lepke could be used as a standard trainer to take its pilot to C-certificate level. The pair were widely used by Hungarian glider clubs post-war, with sixty-five of each produced.
The MSRz Bene was a Hungarian two seat primary glider, first flown in 1952. By this time its competitor had been awarded a serial production order, so only one Bene was completed.
The MRSz Z-03A Ifjúság (Youth) was a Hungarian advanced training glider built in the 1950s, capable of both aerobatic and, with the revised Z-03B, blind flying instruction. They were removed from service in 1960 after fatigue analysis revealed that the fuselage structure at the wing attachment point had only a short life.
The MRSz Z-04 Béke (Peace) was a Hungarian aerobatic glider. First flown in 1955, it became a familiar display aircraft, though only one was built.
The Rubik R-27 Kópé (Imp), a single-seat trainer, was one of three similar, metal-framed Hungarian gliders. Two prototypes were flown in the early 1960s but the type did not reach production.
