Lara Dalton (born 23 May 1970) [1] is an Australian politician. She is a Labor member of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly,representing Geraldton since the 2021 state election. [2]
Prior to entering politics,Dalton worked at the Geraldton campus of Central Regional TAFE,operated her own cafe,the Salt Dish Cafe,for five years,and then returned to TAFE as a hospitality lecturer. She was the Labor candidate for Geraldton at the 2017 state election. She was defeated by Ian Blayney,but reduced his margin to just 1.3%, [3] recording a swing of 21.5%. [4] [5] [6] She had actually led the field on the first count,but WA National and One Nation preferences proved too much for her to overcome.
Dalton was elected to the Legislative Assembly on her second attempt at the 2021 election,receiving 61.71% of the two-party preferred vote and comfortably defeating Blayney amidst a statewide Labor landslide. She actually won 54.7 percent of the primary vote,enough to win the seat on the first count. Her victory made her the first woman to represent Geraldton in its 131-year history. Alannah Joan Geraldine Cecilia MacTiernan is a former Australian politician. From 1988 to 2023,she has served in politics at a federal,state,and local level,including as a minister in the Western Australian state governments of Geoff Gallop,Alan Carpenter,and Mark McGowan. She is best known for her role as the minister for planning and infrastructure during the construction of the Mandurah line. Born in Melbourne,she moved to Perth to study at the University of Western Australia,graduating with a Bachelor of Arts and later with a law degree. She worked for the Department of Employment before practising as a lawyer between 1986 and 1992. During this time,she also served on the Perth City Council. In 1976,MacTiernan joined the Australian Labor Party,and at the 1993 Western Australian state election,she was elected to the Legislative Council's East Metropolitan Region. She became a shadow minister in October 1994,and she was transferred to the Legislative Assembly at the 1996 state election,winning the seat of Armadale.
Shane Robin Hill is an Australian politician. He represented the electorate of Geraldton in the Western Australian Legislative Assembly from the 2001 election for the Labor Party until losing the seat in the 2008 election.
Mia Jane Davies is an Australian politician who was the Leader of the Opposition and leader of the National Party in Western Australia from March 2021 to January 2023. She has been a member of the state Legislative Assembly since 2013,having previously served in the Legislative Council from 2009 to 2013. Davies was elected deputy leader of the Nationals in November 2013,and replaced Brendon Grylls as leader in March 2017 following his defeat at the 2017 state election.
