Laura Malcolm (born 20 May 1991) [1] is an English netball player who has been a co-captain of the national team. At club level, she plays for Mainland Tactix in the ANZ Premiership, and has previously played for Netball Superleague teams Manchester Thunder and Severn Stars.

Club career

Malcolm has played for Manchester Thunder and Severn Stars. [2] She won the 2014 Netball Superleague with Manchester Thunder. Malcolm joined Severn Stars from Thunder in 2017, before returning to Thunder ahead of the 2019 season. [3] She was part of the Thunder team that won the 2019 Netball Superleague. [2] [4] She was named in the 2021 Netball Superleague Team of the Year. [5] In September 2021, Malcolm signed a new two-year contract with Manchester Thunder. [6]

In June 2022, Malcolm announced that she was leaving Manchester Thunder to play overseas. [7] That month, she signed for New Zealand team Mainland Tactix ahead of the 2023 ANZ Premiership season. [8] [9]

International career

Malcolm made her debut for the England national netball team in a 2012 match against Barbados. [1] She had previously been in the England squad for the 2011 World Netball Series. [10] In June 2024 Malcolm announced her retirement from international netball. [11]

In 2019, she was appointed vice-captain for the England tour of South Africa, [1] [12] and was also vice-captain for the 2020 Netball Nations Cup. [4] She was named co-captain alongside Serena Guthrie for the 2020 Taini Jamison Trophy Series. [4] As of March 2021, she had made 31 appearances for England. [12] Malcolm was included in the England squad for the netball event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. [13]

Personal life

Malcolm runs her own netball coaching business, Maias Netball. During the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom, she taught many sessions online. [14] She believes that people should be judged on merits rather than the colour of their skin. [12] Malcolm's father died in 2013. [2]

Chelsea Pitman is an Australian-born netball player who represented the England National Netball Team internationally until 18 September 2023. Stacey Francis-Bayman is a former England netball international. At club level she has played for both Team Bath and Yorkshire Jets in the Netball Superleague, for Canterbury Tactix in the ANZ Championship and for West Coast Fever in Suncorp Super Netball. Between 2005–06 and 2013 she was a prominent member of the Team Bath squad as they won five Superleague titles. She played in the 2010 and 2013 grand finals and in both 2011 and 2013 she was named the Netball Superleague Player of the Season. In 2017 she was inducted into the University of Bath/Team Bath Hall of Fame for Sport.

Natalie Metcalf is an English netball player. She was part of the England squad that won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She was appointed captain of the England team in 2022 and led them to their first Netball World Cup final a year later, where they finished runner up to Australia.

The 2018 ANZ Premiership season was the second season of Netball New Zealand's ANZ Premiership. With a team coached by Reinga Bloxham, captained by Wendy Frew and featuring Gina Crampton, Shannon Francois, Te Paea Selby-Rickit and Te Huinga Reo Selby-Rickit, Southern Steel retained the title, winning their second consecutive premiership. Central Pulse finished the regular season as minor premiers. However, in the grand final Steel defeated Pulse 54–53. The top three teams from the season – Steel, Pulse and Mainland Tactix qualified for the 2018 Netball New Zealand Super Club.

London Pulse is an English netball team based at the Copper Box Arena in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford, London. Since 2019 their senior team has played in the Netball Superleague.

The 2021 Netball Superleague season was the sixteenth season of the Netball Superleague, the elite domestic netball competition in the United Kingdom. The season started on 12 February 2021. Manchester Thunder were the defending champions, as they won the 2019 season and the 2020 season was cancelled after three rounds due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the ongoing pandemic, the first nine weeks of matches were held at Studio 001 in Wakefield, and the remaining matches were held at the Copper Box Arena in London. All matches were originally scheduled to be held behind closed doors, though from week 17 onwards, limited numbers of fans were permitted into matches, due to a change in the UK Government guidelines.

Malysha Kelly is a Jamaican netball player, who has made over 50 appearances for the national side, and is a former captain. At club level, she most recently played for Severn Stars in the Netball Superleague.

The 2022 Netball Superleague season was the seventeenth season of the Netball Superleague, the elite domestic netball competition in the United Kingdom. Loughborough Lightning were the defending champions, as they won the 2021 season. The season began on 5 February, and ended with the grand final on 5 June.

Imogen Allison is an English netball player, who has represented the national side since 2020. At club level, she plays for Manchester Thunder and has previously played for Team Bath & Yorkshire Jets.

The 2023 ANZ Premiership season was the seventh season of Netball New Zealand's ANZ Premiership. With a team coached by Tia Winikerei, captained by Sulu Fitzpatrick and featuring Phoenix Karaka, Grace Nweke, Michaela Sokolich-Beatson and Peta Toeava, Northern Mystics won their second title. Mystics finished the regular season as minor premiers, finishing above Central Pulse and Northern Stars. In the Elimination final, Stars defeated Pulse 53–52. Mystics then defeated Stars 74–56 in the Grand final.
