Lawrence Cheng Tan-shui (born 28 December 1954) is a Hong Kong film actor, director, screenwriter, producer, and master of ceremonies. He was a Hong Kong DJ and radio channel executive.
Cheng became famous after he created the radio drama series The Yuppie Fantasia (小男人週記) in 1986 which he also starred in. In 1989, he starred in the film adaptation of the series which was directed by Gordon Chan and became a box office hit.
Cheng was born in Hong Kong on 27 November 1954. His family is from Huizhou (惠州市), Guangdong Province. He attended secondary school in St. Paul's College and then went to Hong Kong Baptist University, the top broadcasting school in Hong Kong, and graduated in 1978.
After graduating from the Baptist College in 1978, Cheng immediately joined Reddifusion Television's Creative Department where he worked on numerous popular television series. He later joined ATV and became a Creative Director. He switched from a TV personality to a radio producer and DJ in 1984 when he joined RTHK. In 1987, he made his return to television when he joined TVB. At TVB, he was a variety show host, and acted in many dramas.
His film career started in 1980, however his breakout role was in The Yuppie Fantasia in 1989, which was a box office hit grossing US $2 million. Aside from being an actor, he is also a director, producer and screenwriter.
Cheng currently hosts variety shows as a freelancer for TVB, ATV, now TV Hong Kong Channel, feature Race Meetings and Events for The Hong Kong Jockey Club and acts in a few dramas. He also acts as supporting actor in Hong Kong films.
In January 2011, he suffered from a burst lung whilst playing football.

Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) is a television broadcasting company based in Hong Kong. The company operates five free-to-air terrestrial television channels in Hong Kong, with TVB Jade as its main Cantonese language service, and TVB Pearl as its main English service. TVB is headquartered at TVB City at the Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate.
Asia Television Limited is a digital media and broadcasting company in Hong Kong. Established as the first television service in Hong Kong as Rediffusion Television on 29 May 1957, it shifted to terrestrial television on 30 November 1973 and was renamed Asia Television on 24 September 1982. ATV operated two main over-the-air channels: the Cantonese-language ATV Home and the English-language ATV World.
Television in Hong Kong is primarily in Cantonese and English. It is delivered through analogue and digital terrestrial, cable, IPTV, and the Internet. Satellite TV is not common, although many housing estates have dishes and re-distribute a limited number of free channels through coaxial cables. The dominant broadcaster is TVB, ViuTV and HOY TV.
Sean Lau Ching-wan is a Hong Kong actor who has acted in both films and television series. He is best known for starring in the films C'est la vie, mon chéri (1993), My Name Is Fame (2006), Mad Detective (2007), Overheard film series (2009–2014), and Life Without Principle (2011). Eddy Ko Hung is a Hong Kong actor and martial artist. He has appeared in over 150 film and television roles since his debut in 1969. Nicholas Cheung Ka-fai is a Hong Kong actor, singer and director. He first gained recognition for his roles in The Conman (1998) and The Tricky Master (1999). FAMA is a Hong Kong hip hop duo consisting of members C Kwan and Luk Wing (6-Wing). Formed in 2002, the duo have since released 10 studio albums and EPs. Known for their quick-wit and humour, along with the use of lyrics and music to reflect Hong Kong's society and culture, C Kwan and 6 Wing have also found success as television hosts and actors. Carol Cheng Yu Ling, nicknamed Do Do, is a Hong Kong host and actress. Cheng made her break in TVB series, Man in the Net (1979-1980). She is the first to win both the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actress and the TVB Anniversary Award for Best Actress, which are the highest honors for an actress in film and television in Hong Kong.
Ruco Chan Chin-pang is a Hong Kong actor and singer.
David Siu Chung-hang is a former Hong Kong TVB actor. He is best known for his role as Ting How-hai (丁孝蟹) in the 1992 TVB series The Greed of Man. He entered TVB in 1987 and starred in a number TV series including Behind Silk Curtains, A Trial of Lifetime, Bet On Fate, The Greed of Man, The Link, and Remembrance. In 1994, he turned to work for ATV and devoted himself to running a 4-wheel drive conversion shop in Hong Kong.
Jonathan Chik Gei-yee is a Hong Kong television producer, director, and writer. Chik joined TVB in 1976 as a production assistant. He was an assistant for Kam Kwok-leung, who supported his career. In the early 1990s, Chik left TVB to work as a producer for ATV. Promoted to executive producer, he returned to TVB in 1994. He remained as a producer for TVB until 2012.
Frederick "Fred" Cheng is a Canadian-born Hong Kong musician and actor. He rose to fame after competing and winning the 2013 Hong Kong singing competition, Voice of the Stars. He is currently signed to TVB management.
The Yuppie Fantasia is a 1989 Hong Kong comedy film written and directed by Gordon Chan, and storied, produced by and starring Lawrence Cheng based on the hit radio series of the same name created by Cheng and Chan Hing-ka for RTHK in 1986 which also starred Cheng. The film was followed by two sequels, titled Brief Encounter in Shinjuku released in 1990, and The Yuppie Fantasia 3 released in 2017.
