To French speakers in Atlantic Canada, they are known, colloquially, as "titines de souris". Hugo Salmela

Hugo Salmela was one of the Red Guard military leaders in the 1918 Finnish Civil War. He was a saw-mill worker from the town of Kotka in Eastern Finland, without any military background. Salmela was also known as an enthusiastic amateur actor in the local worker's theatre. After the Red Guards were formed in the late 1917, Salmela became the leader of the Kymi Guard.

Elisabeth Piirainen,, was a German linguist and philologist. After studying linguistics in Münster, Amsterdam, and Helsinki, she received her PhD in 1970 at the University of Münster. Afterwards she worked as an editor for German Language at the University of Jyväskylä located in central Finland. In 1963 she met the Finnish scholar of German language, Ilpo Tapani Piirainen, and married him in 1967. Since 1975, she was in charge of various projects related to Low German philology. Kärpät Naiset Finnish womens ice hockey team

Oulun Kärpät Naiset are an ice hockey team in the Naisten Liiga. They are the women's representative ice hockey team of the Finnish sports club Oulun Kärpät 46, based in Oulu, North Ostrobothnia, and their home venue is Oulun Energia Areena. Ilves has won the Aurora Borealis Cup three times, in 2012, 2017, and 2018.

Jukka Piirainen is a Finnish sailor. He competed in the 49er event at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
