Lerner Enterprises is a company owned by the Lerner family that develops and invests in real estate in the Washington metropolitan area. The company has developed more than 20 million square feet of real estate.

History

The company was founded in 1952 by lawyer Ted Lerner, after he borrowed $250 from his wife. [1]

In 1958, the company developed its first shopping center, Wheaton Plaza (now Westfield Wheaton) in partnership with the Gudelsky family. [1]

Shortly thereafter, it bought 2 parcels of land in Tysons Corner, Virginia. [1] In 1968, the company completed development of Tysons Corner Center. [2]

In 1972, the company completed development of Landover Mall in Prince George's County, Maryland, but the mall was closed and demolished in 2002. [3] The company solicited the site as a location for a new headquarters of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. [4]

In 2003, a joint venture between the company and Guggenheim Partners acquired 1275 K Street NW in Washington, D.C. from JBG Smith. [5]

In 2004, in partnership with Tower Companies, the company began development of a 300,000 square foot shopping centre in Virginia [6] and in 2008, the partners completed 2000 Tower Oaks Blvd, a LEED platinum building in Tower Oaks, which became both companies' headquarters. [7]

In 2007, the company completed construction of 20 M Street SE and in 2009, the Bureau of Land Management leased 94,435 square feet of space in the building. [8]

In 2008, the company began constructing a 2-tower combination Hilton Garden Inn and Homewood Suites by Hilton hotel in Rockville. [9]

In 2013, the company broke ground on a 433-unit apartment complex across the street from its Dulles Town Center project and in 2014, the company broke ground on additional developments at Dulles Town Center. [10]

In 2015, the company was subject to a lawsuit after it demolished portions of its White Flint Mall to redevelop the site, in violation of a lease with Lord & Taylor. [11]

In February 2016, the company sold 2 office buildings in Fairfax, Virginia. [12]

In 2016, the company completed development of 1775 Tysons in Tyson's Corner, Virginia. [13]

In 2018, the company announced that it was looking to sell the site of the former Landover Mall. [14]

On February 12, 2023, Ted Lerner died at age 97.

Landover Mall was a large shopping mall located in Landover, Maryland, directly across from FedExField, off MD 202 and Interstates 95 and 495. The mall was built by Sonny Abramson and Ted Lerner of Lerner Enterprises, and opened in 1972. Like its neighbor, Capital Plaza Mall, it was a major attraction through its opening years in Prince George's County. The mall featured many anchors and smaller tenants; however, upon the decline and closing of its major anchors, the mall itself entered a state of decline. Finally, in 2002, the mall's doors were closed and it ultimately was demolished in 2006. Sears remained open because it owned the land beneath the store. Sears later sold the land underneath its store to Lerner. In January 2014, Sears announced that it would close in March.

Founded in 1963 to take advantage of a change in Washington, D.C.'s liquor laws, it pioneered a number of changes in the way restaurants in the district operated. In 1970, it purchased the oldest restaurant in the district, Old Ebbitt Grill. The company has since expanded its namesake "Clyde's" restaurant into a small chain, as well as opened and purchased other restaurants. In 2019, the company was acquired by Graham Holdings.

PS Business Parks, Inc., was a publicly-traded real estate investment trust that acquired, developed, owned and operated commercial properties, primarily multi-tenant industrial, flex and office space. Located primarily in major coastal markets, PS Business Parks’ 97 properties served approximately 5,000 tenants, in 28 million square feet across California, Texas, Virginia, Florida, Maryland and Washington state. The portfolio also included 800 residential units in Tysons, Virginia. As of July 20, 2022, PS Business Parks, Inc.'s holdings have been transferred to Link Logistics Real Estate, an affiliate of Blackstone Real Estate. completing an acquisition first announced on April 25, 2022.

BLVD Place is a mixed-use development located in Uptown Houston, Houston, Texas, United States, encompassing 20 acres at the intersection of Post Oak Boulevard and San Felipe.

Metropolitan Partnership, Ltd. is a company engaged in real estate development in the Washington metropolitan area. Ground was broken on the tower in November 2014 and it was completed in 2018. It is the headquarters of Capital One. Capital One Tower is one of many skyscrapers that have been constructed for the urbanization project in Tysons, Virginia.

The Washington Blvd.–Dunn Loring Line, designated as Route 2A, is a daily bus route operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority between Dunn Loring station of the Orange Line of the Washington Metro and Ballston–MU station of the Orange and Silver lines of the Washington Metro. This line provides service within the neighborhoods of Merrifield, Falls Church and Ballston in Fairfax County, the City of Falls Church, and Arlington County. Trips are roughly between 15 and 30 minutes on weekdays, and 30 to 45 minutes on weekends.
