Light Unseen is an American death metal and grindcore band that originated in San Marcos, Texas, United States. The band was founded by local Texas death metal and grindcore veteran Christian "Shun" Marthiljohni of Diminished, Southern Front, and The Monk. [1] Marthiljohni hired on his friend Adrian Trevino to take over drums. [1] The band signed with Nosral Recordings in January 2018. [2] Light Unseen has been compared to Tortured Conscience and Antidemon. [3] Currently, the band is signed with Rottweiler Records. [4]

History

Light Unseen began in July 2016, with the lineup of Christian "Shun" Marthiljohni on vocals, guitars, and bass and Adrian Trevino on drums. [1] [5] The band debuted with their single "Imago Dei", which was released independently. [6] Following the release of the single, the band released a demo on November 17, with the title Eve of the Day of the Lord: Demo 2017, which included three tracks - "Imago Dei", "Corpus Christi", and "Eve of the Day of the Lord". [7]

On January 27, 2018, the band signed with Nosral Recordings, a Christian label whose roster also included Symphony of Heaven, Ascending King, and Outrage A.D., and announced the release of their debut album. [2] September 2018 saw them joining on a festival called Triple Threat 666, several other local artists. [8] Following their performance at the festival, Light Unseen officially released their debut single, a re-recorded version of "Corpus Christi", on November 28, 2018. [1] The band would release their debut album, Visions of Archetype and Apocalypse, would come out through Nosral Recordings on December 14, 2018. [5] The album was fairly well received. On January 27, 2019, the band performed as special guests on the Hasten Revelation tour, alongside Halcyon Way, Taking the Head of Goliath, Abated Mass of Flesh, A Hill to Die Upon, and Death Requisite. [12] [13] Over July 3 and 4, the band drove up to Audiofeed Music Festival to perform alongside several acts, including labelmates Symphony of Heaven, Gold Frankincense and Myrrh, and Gnashing of Teeth. [14] The band is currently working on their sophomore album. [15] On November 30, 2020, the band signed with Rottweiler Records, home to Brotality, Skald in Veum, and fellow Nosral alumni Symphony of Heaven. [4]

The label started early on as a label that served punk rock, but has become a label that serves metal and punk. It is a Christian label, and therefore many of its artists are as well. Nosral Recordings is a Christian metal record label based out of Madison, Wisconsin, United States. The label originated in 2017, as a sister-label of Rottweiler Records, by Mike Larson of Frost Like Ashes. Shortly after forming in April, by May the label signed Ascending King, their first act. Several acts signed to the label by 2018, including Symphony of Heaven, Nuclear Blaze, Children of Wrath, Cruentis and Enemy of Satan. Eventually, Nosral became a full-on independent label from Rottweiler. In 2019, the label closed and became defunct.

Symphony of Heaven is a Christian blackened death metal band from Owensville, Indiana, United States. The band began in 2017 as a solo project, but morphed into a full band by 2019, consisting of Logan Thompson (guitars/vocals), David Napier (bass), Eero Tertsunen (guitars), and Mason Beard (drums). The band has released two studio albums, two EPs, and a split release. According to HM Magazine, the band is "one of the best death metal acts to form in the past four years" as of 2021.

Children of Wrath is a Christian symphonic death metal from Phoenix, Arizona. The project describes his sound as Blackened Melodic Symphonic Holy Death metal.

Shadow Puncher is a brutal death metal project that began in 2016 as a solo project of Max Kevin Ølstøren. The band began as a death metal/black metal project out of Trondheim, Norway, releasing demos with hand-drawn art. The band was signed to Nosral Recordings.

Outrage A.D., originally known as Outrage, is a Canadian Christian thrash and death metal band that originated in Ottawa, Ontario. The band began in 1992 as Outrage and eventually disbanded in 1995. In 2013, the band reunited and changed their name to Outrage A.D.

Maniacal Entropik Discordium is the second album by melodic death metal band Symphony of Heaven. The album was released in 2021, four years after the debut of The Season of Death on Nosral Recordings. The album is the debut of Eero Tertsunen on guitars, David "Timōrātus" Napier (Timōrātus) on bass, and Mason "Asaph" Beard on drums, which saw founder Logan "Pathos" Thompson switch from everything to solely guitars and vocals. The album was originally titled Entropy, however Thompson changed the title later on throughout the process.
