Shangla District is a district in Malakand Division of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The district's headquarter is located at Alpuri, while the largest city and commercial center is Besham. The district was established in 1995, having previously been a subdivision of Swat District. The total area of the district is 1,586 square kilometers. Shangla comprises three subdivisions, Alpuri, Puran and Besham tehsils.

Dwa Saray Ghar is the highest mountain of Buner, Lower Swat valley and Makhozi Shangla. Dwa Sary is situated on border between three districts Swat, Buner and Shangla, It is part of hinduraj mountains which is a sub-section of Hindukush mountains. It stands on the eastern side of Pir Baba and Gokand valley. It is called by this name because it has two heads or twin peaks. In Pashto language, "dwa" means two and "saray" means with head, i.e. the mountain with two heads. There are two close peaks with an inverted "W" shape. It takes 6 hours hiking to reach the summit when you start your journey from Kalil top or pass (another hill station located in mountain boundary between Swat and Buner.
Alpuri is the capital of Shangla District in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. It is located at 34°54′00″N72°39′00″E and has an average elevation of 1587 meters. The place has a government degree college and District headquarters hospital.
Chakesar is a town / Tehsil of the Shangla District in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. It is situated about 6 km in the north-west on the right bank of the Indus River. Chakesar was given the status of Tehsil in 2017, by the PTI Govt, in kp on request of PTI's former candidate for National assembly Mr. Nawaz Mehmood. The inhabitants live primarily on agricultural products.

Abaseen or Abasin Division is a proposed division in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which will comprise seven districts: Battagram, Allai, Kolai-Palas, Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan, Shangla, and Torghar. The area is located on both sides of the Indus River, which is known in Pashto and other local languages as Abaseen.
